Forums - Sales - Once again PS3/X360 gap is less then 2 million

Halo 4 is not a system seller guys, surely you would know this by now, same as Call of Duty.

There's already 6 Halo games on the X360 and 7 Call of Duty, why would the 7th Halo game or 8th CoD game bring in new people??

Go look at when Pokemon Black and White 2 came out for the DS it sold almost 2 million in japan alone first week and the DS went from selling 1000 units the week prior to 1600 units when B&W2 came out.

When your this late in the gen the only system sellers are actually new ip's or a game that has yet to be on the system.

Halo 4 Limited 360s WILL sell. That is an example of a game selling a system. COD 360 bundle last year........nuff said.

"why would the 7th Halo game or 8th CoD game bring in new people??"

Like I said before but you seemed to ignore......yesterdays kids are todays teens. Its no secret a part of COD and Halo gamers are teens, hell even younger. The world goes on and grows up. Then theres also current gamers just swept up in the media blitz or get the game because their buddies got it. Plenty ways to bring in new gamers to existing franchises.

The DS is last gen now so bad example.

Historicall, new IPs late in the gen actually sales flop rather then sell systems. "Blockbusters" sell systems more then anything else.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Ok we hit then point once again with the gap being less then 2 million, let's hope adjustments don't kick in and throw it off again.

X360 - 67,253,215

PS3 - 65,256,394

By the end of the year that gap could be less then 1 million.

I highly doubt that, November and December will be huge for Xbox thanks to Black Ops 2 and Halo 4. PS3 doesn't really have any system sellers for the holiday season.

Two games that are not system sellers at this point of the generation versus a new Slimmer PS3 and an obviously cheaper 16GB version.

Actually that's not even remotely true. It has been proven that any Halo with a limited edition console sells hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of consoles every year, and the 360 gets a huge boost from COD as well (a lot of that is due to bundles as well).

BTW where is this PS3 slim thing coming from? I hear a lot of people talking about it but I haven't seen any rumors for it yet.

But all in all I see the gap being around 1.5 million by January 2013 and the lowest I think it will dip to is under 1 million right around late October.

PS3 is kickin all kinds of ass lately. That's why I got one last year. Good thing I did, cuz Sony gave me a bunch of "free" games. And they rock!

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I don't know how they will do, but Sony has a blockbuster PS3 bundle with Assassin's Creed III this holiday season. Plus Black Ops 2 will still be massive on PS3. However Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed III are parallel to each other. 360 has exclusive BO2 content (timed) and PS3 has exlcusive Assassin's Creed content.

However, Sony also has a redesign coming for the PS3 and who knows how PlayStation All-Stars and LittleBigPlanet Karting are going to do. They won't sell 10 million units a piece (or they might, who knows, if they are great games word of mouth spreads, I guess it's possible).

Plus the hype for titles like God of War: Ascension, Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us coming next year will entice people to buy the system this year. To build up for the massive titles next year.

And we all know that Wonderbook is easy going to be a system seller this holiday. I mean look at it. How can it not be the next big thing? (For the less intelligent, YES THIS SENTENCE WAS SARCASM)

If Sony really cuts the price again, even though SCE lost 1.2 billion and the whole company 6 billion last year, I will just laugh. I mean it doesn't matter to anyboydy who sold 66.7 and who sold 66.8 million. 3rd paty support will be a given this late into the generation.

Sony NEEDS the money. Why not redesign the console without a picecut like MS did in 2010 and start to actually make some money? What is wrong with Sony that they are willing to lose soooo much money (and they are already in a not-healthy position) just to get to 2nd place?

It is just against every rational thought.

Ya but if the new ps3 slim rumors are true, then there will be three different models.  The 16GB, 250GB, and 500GB.  And if the new slim is as small as it seems to be, then the materials will cost considerably less than the current ps3 model. I believe it will go like this,  16GB --> $150-$175; 250GB --> $200; and 500GB --> $250.

Sony will, without a doubt, be making a profit on the 16GB and even more on the higher models.  You can't possibly believe that sony will make the same mistake and take a loss on the console.

All fanboyism aside, people are talking nonsense if they think halo and call of duty won't be system sellers. Halo has proven to be a system seller anumber of times in the past and a limited edition console WILL boost sales quite substantially as most limited edition consoles tend to do. I also think the Xbox will have a price cut and assuming ps3 has no price cut or new model this holiday season, Xbox will sell more (in November/December).

If ps3 wants to match Xbox it has to have a new slim released with a low hardrive, low price model comparable to the 4gb Xbox aswell as bigger hardrive models. Playstation all stars and wonder book are wild cards here I think. With sonys track record of poor advertising most people assume these won't do well, but if marketed correctly, with bundles and good support I think these can be big. Littlebigplanet could also do well if marketed well to the casuals. An Assasins creed 3 bundle should do well too.

If these situations take place for both consoles I can honestly see it being equal. But, no new model ps3 and no ps3 price cut and I think Xbox will win the holidays.

As this isnt in the Sony forums....

Speak for yourself!

But I think it matters more to you so I'll let you have it.

I meant let's hope the numbers actually stay where they are this time since last time this thread was made it turned out to be pretty big then in the end it was adjusted and the PS3 was still pretty far away from the 2 million gap.

There no reason for pointing out my fanboyism.

It should be no shock that a thread like this will tug at the strings of certain people. You just have to know that you're presenting newsworthy material (since this is a sales site, after all) and stick to it. As I said above, I think you're a little optimistic for the gap's position later in the year, but nothing wrong with a little prediction, regardless of the past. Do what you do. ;)

With respect... what was that all about?

I was merely picking him up on saying "lets hope it stays that way", whats the problem with that?  It appeared to be an assumption that all here want this to continue.

Newsworthy?  I guess, but then it is patently obvious on the front screen, more newsworthy is later when the first financials are due.  And a really newsworthy article would be a discussion on why the shipment gap was over 3m and the sales gap is around 2.0m?

Well, initially I took it as him wanting the gap to stay as VGC shows. Considering VGC current history with shipment data, NPD and everything else, I too would hope they stay accurate rather than once again displaying discrepencies of greater than 30%.

Somehow I still expect significant discrepencies (not because of VGC, but because the data can be quite a challenge to track). If the PS3 really does get a price cut and further hardware revision, it's probably a guarantee.

I know for a fact there will be some as well, but with NPD now showing big differences (Even more so since NPD got access to Walmart) I fear for how off their numbers outside the US are going to be.
