Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: next gen is about “improving gaming experience” “wonderful graphics won’t help”

The thing is that outside from the hardcore gamers and graphics whore people will not know the difference between graphics

The difference between both is easy to see, because as gamers we are used to this kind of things, but normal consumers (not specifically casuals) can never tell the difference unless they pay extreme close attention to both images (the only thing that it's extremely obvious is the hair)

to be honest thread should be titled:

Nintendo: Next gen is about "survival."

Considering the wii is being outsold by the PSP....nintendo shouldn't be proclaiming anything, sell some consoles then you can speak *LauGHs*

Nintendo stopped pooling there support behind the Wii last year. Its still getting number 1 selling game even though no more effort is being made on Nintendo's part at all. They aren't trying to sell that console anymore. It would be sad if anything is being outsold by it at this point.

Do you ever say anything that isn't a fallacy? So many irrellevent conclusions.

Perry really just said to Nintendo "sell some consoles". Wow lol talk about blind, they have sold the most consoles for years(DS,Wii) and will do the same this year(3ds).

That is a shocking turnaround from before, but part of that is because Nintendo can no longer support the Wii, needing to move on to make sure their newer devices can thrive, and because third parties outright ignored it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Is the Wii U going to play games in 3D?

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

But look at the graphics we have now, Sal. There seriously isn't a lot more we can do to them.

You can get down to the nitty-gritty but in the eyes of the consumer there won't be much difference between this:

and what can already be seen in FFXIII/2.

We can do a lot more and you kind of point it out yourself. FFXIII in no way compares to what we say with the lumnious engine. Essentially what FFXIII can do in CGI, luminous can do in real-time, in gameplay. Graphically we are reaching a point of near visual perfection, that is not what this gen has done. Games can in the near future be entirely void of CGI sequences that are graphically toned up from the basic in game graphics. We will be more able to render distances as in game views, instead of scalling. Textures won't pop in and out. No aliasing. We can use camera techniques that allow for extreme close up views without detail loss and zoom out all within engine and in-game graphics. We won't see this right away next gen, but that is what is being worked on and you will be floored by it in 10 years. Game design is taking a new turn soon and its a really big one.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Nintendo is always about gameplay but their focus is truer now since they are increasingly having difficulty competing with graphics.
Such focus is definitely commendable; their games mostly have high production values.

Even so, graphics may not necessarily vital be as gameplay really is, but it still would be great to have it all: perfect blend of art style & engrossing graphics, well balanced gameplay mechanics & immersive storyline, with great amount of content, replay value & wide range of difficulty options and features.

Actualy, just hardcore gamers. One thing I've noticed about graphics whores is that they have no understanding about graphics.

Most of them simply prefer a specific graphical style (80% of the time that is what they consider to be photo realistic looking) and they call which ever console has the most games that fit that style the "console" with the best graphics...(The 360 has a stronger GPU than the PS3 but you will still see people saying the PS3 has the best graphics).

This is why there is no point in arguing with a graphics whore whenever you find one. All they care about is whether or not they like how the game looks and how many big number are thrown around.

I like detailed scenery in games. You know what I like even more? Actually being able to go to the scenery and find out that it isn't just a pretty skybox.

Right. Like in Xenoblade, which largely moots the point being made since Xenoblade is on Wii

or Just Cause 2 which has a bigger draw distance and looks much better.

No, not really. Just Cause 2 uses scaling where everything in the distance was scaled down until you got within a certain range. Xenoblade had no textures pop in or out when you were at different distances.

dont know what you're talking about but JC 2 had no texture pop in or out and i own both games
