I like detailed scenery in games. You know what I like even more? Actually being able to go to the scenery and find out that it isn't just a pretty skybox.

Right. Like in Xenoblade, which largely moots the point being made since Xenoblade is on Wii

or Just Cause 2 which has a bigger draw distance and looks much better.

No, not really. Just Cause 2 uses scaling where everything in the distance was scaled down until you got within a certain range. Xenoblade had no textures pop in or out when you were at different distances.

dont know what you're talking about but JC 2 had no texture pop in or out and i own both games

It did when I played. I was palying the PS3 version though.

Is the Wii U going to play games in 3D?

From what I read  a week ago (perhaps in the Offical WIi U thread) was that at this stage it will not support 3D because they don't like the idea of people wearing glasses as people said they don't like wearing them and backed it up with virtual boy failiing because of having to wear glasses. This statementis somewhat plausable when 3D tvs firsst come out the glasses sucked. But now they are like any comfortable subglasses. So I do not think people hate the glasses so much anymore.

They did however say they may enable it later if TVs become glassless.

i never noticed that issue before, JC 2 wasnt much different than most sandbox games i played, but it has been awhile.

Yes. People who play video games will. That's what matters for these games.

The idea that only us enthusiasts on a forum will notice improvements in graphics from now on...Ninpie, I'm going to leave it to time. You're going to be blown away like the rest of us, I'm sure of it. Just enjoy it huh

No, I seriously can't agree with you Sal.

The regular ole' consumer won't see those amazing super-tiny-sub-atomic pixels (I don't know what to say there obviously ) that happen when a burst of light flashes across the screen. There are things that can be improved, I know. (Non-graphics wise too.) But really how much farther can you get than what we already have? (Don't answer that question because I know what you'll say!)

Ok, I won't reply.

But you're wrong.

Shouldn't it be "wonderful graphics alone won't help"?

In my opinion, wonderful graphics have existed since the SNES in 2D (Donkey Kong Country/Final Fantasy 6/III), and since the Dreamcast in 3D (Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur).

You can make games with high polygonal counts that still look ugly if the art sucks (Many many PC type games).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think many here confuse the best graphics and good graphics.

Nintendo consoles have good graphics, but the Wii did not have the best graphics, that is a fact.

But, the more the technology moves forward the harder it is for the human eye to notice a difference. I dont think the difference from WiiU to Sony/MS next gen will be that noticeable. If its not comparable, the only thing noticeable will be better animations and lighting.

I'm done too.

The grass in that Xenoblade shot ends a few meters away from the characters, the grass on the hills on the right look like blobs of color vs the ground textures up close. If I can notice texture LOD in a static screenshot it must be really aparent in motion, tho I am sure the low resolution helps hide the problem.

Unless of course the game just has patches of the game world with much lower res textures and no grass, that stay the same when up close...

lol i wanted to post exactly that yesterday about the grass and the flat green ground only 20 meters or so further. i even watched a video to see it and yes, the low resolution helps to hide it because if you can't see it so sharp and everything is a little bit blurred, you don't see it so much but it is pretty obvious that only some meters in front of the characters the details are lost and there aren't gras blades anymore. and it is also no wonder that a game which only has a few trees shows exactly the same amount from long distance or short distance and a game which has hundreds of trees in one area, that this will lose some of them if you look at it from distance. but even then, just cause 2 has more trees from 1km distance than xenoblade has from 10 meters distance.

This. Pretty much it. I like Xenoblade, but i find it funny how people put it on some graphical pedestal, it isnt doing anything better that wasnt already done years ago on the PS2/GC/Xbox consoles. and to compare it to JC 2 or any of the open world games for HD/PC is lunacy as those games boast higher field of view with more details and higher resolution across the board, thats not a knock on the game makers its just the way it is with the Wii hardware just being that much weaker
