Forums - Microsoft - $400 X360+Halo bundle revealed. No X360 price cut despite PS3 Slim and WiiU launches?

It's looking like The PS3 will finally pass the 360 in total sales this year.

I'm not so sure that MS needs to cut prices. If the ugle PS3 Slim2 is real it may stay the same price. The Wii U isn't a guaranteed hit. MS can cut prices at any time, but I don't think MS will unless they have to. If the PS3 gets a price cut and the Wii U is a hit then MS can react with a price cut at that time.

A PS3 price cut is guaranteed. They can't sell the 16GB model for the same price they are selling the 160GB one today. They'll at least sell the 16GB model for $199 while keeping the other two &249 and $299.

I feel like the 16GB model will be $149 and then the other two will be $200 and $250.  Because if the pictures comparing the sizes of the new ps3 model are correct, then I believe the production cost will be cut down by a lot.  Especially with no automatic disc load and eject, considerably less materials, and most likely a lot smaller fan, cell, power supply, etc.

I think most people actually said the opposite.

that is one sleek looking 360....as for no price cut, I am a little surprised, I thought for sure they'd do one this year, with the WiiU and now a supposed cheaper/new PS3 model, it will certainly take away potential buyer for the 360 this holiday season.

Say whaaaaaaaat??  It's a new Nintendo console with a new controller AND it's launching with Mario.  This thing is going to fly off shelves during the holidays.

HOWEVER... i do agree with the rest of your post because that still doesn't mean that M$ has to cut prices right away, simply because the Wii U is once again going to be targeted at the casual / expanded audience and hardcore Nintendo fanboy audience, so it really isn't that much of a threat yet.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Only the unreasonably hardcore Sony fans say that, but they exaggerate the smallest of changes to make it seem like an extreme advantage for their console of choice. Most normal posters believed $50 wouldn't be that impactful of a price drop. Most said a $100 cut would be the only way to cause any drastic effect

no clue but it really seems like they don't try a lot anymore to sell more 360s. just talking about this edition, it is for halo fans and not really for new console customers so they rather try to make a good profit with the halo 360s instead of selling more of them but without gaining a lot new customers because even if they would sell that edition for a lower price most who will buy it already own a 360. so they only profit they will make selling this edition is the profit of the console itself and not future game sales.

I think it's entirely possible for Sony to price the 16gb model at $149. You're right, they've barely had a $50 cut in three years and now costs are going drastically down, plus no HDD means an even cheaper to produce model. I'm not sure Sony will do that though, they may want to profit more on HW. It may go either way. Anyway, my point was just that a price cut is guaranteed, at the very least to 199.
