Pretty old thread

Pyro as Bill said:
The guy from MS who said that WiU is little more than a 360 is correct.
Kinect sold more 360s than 3D did for the PS3 or 3DS.
PREDICTION: Kinect will sell more 360s/720s than an extra (controller) screen will for Wii-U.
The extra screen WILL NOT sell the Wii-U.
PREDICTION: Not a single 'assymetric gameplay' game will hit 10M or 20M.
Nintendo has absolutely no idea what they're doing. A year in and we're already seeing the 3DSXL. Desperation. 2D Mari-U will do no more for WiiU than MK7 did for 3ds. The extra screen will hardly be used after the first year, maybe Nintendo will keep using it but 3rd parties will prety much drop it for it's GAMING features.
If Nintendo wins next gen it will be because Sony and MS completely eff up. Sony's nearly out of here but MS should win if they don't focus on Kinect and continue appealing to the PC gamer.
PREDICTION: If Wii-U has a 10M or 20M seller it will be because of motion control or symmetric local multiplayer.

Of couse the gamepad will sell systems but it may have nothing to do with asymmetric gameplay. The ability to play your console even when the wife or other family member is using the tv is an absolute selling feature.

Secondly regardless if 3d is selling the 3ds something is. The system is a dominator in the dedicated gaming handheld market and will be a money maker for years to come.

Nintendo is well on its way to years of high profitability. Kinect like all gimmicks will eventually fade. VR is much more interesting tech. Kinect is useless if you dont have the space for it. its a very american product but wont get much traction internationally where living room space is even harder to come by.

At least Wii U has a good gimmick. Kinect serves a better purpose as a bludgeoning tool (not really, but I have yet to play a Kinect game that wasn't a waste of my time).

Funny thing is that it isn't even a gimmick.  If it were a gimmick, it wouldn't add anything new to gaming.  However, it has a lot of potential to do new things with gaming that wasn't possible with just the standard controller.  Some people have been saying that the Wii U will be perfect for DnD.

Give the console a year or so then we can predict nintendos future until then they are sweet as.

How about all of us stop with the Nintendo's dead, Sony's dead bullshit and see what really happens when the rest of the Gen 8 consoles hit the markets. Not point bickering here about who's going to fail for the next cycle when only 1 out of the possible 3 big ones are released.

And back to topic, I don't see how the 3DS's dying right now, and whether if the 3DSXL was an act of desperation remains to be seen. From what we know it's still very much alive and pummeling the Vita (sadly) and is still on pretty much on track to reach DS's level of sales even with all of the smartphone and tablet hoo-hah. Of course things can change any moment.

And Wii U's barely a week old. As much as there have been compliments about what it could bring to the gaming world (Miiverse, assymetrical gameplay and the possibilites of the second screen), it also brought about some notoriety (the OMG 12.8 GB/s-slower-than-PS3-and-360 RAM capabilities, and poorly performing ports of existing console games). Then again if it is really going to falter, that doesn't mean that Nintendo can't pull off another 3DS-like "miracle", so to speak. It's still too early to say if the second screen would fail Nintendo.

Back to the big picture. No matter which console manufacturer falls, it does not spell good for the dedicated console industry at all, it only gives nay-sayers another reason to boo your PS3, Xbox 360 or the Wii U you think is on the track to failure.

Funny, because this generation Nintendo won because MS and Sony eff'd up.

Bamupu.

My 8th gen collection

Damn, OP was accurate af.

OP totally nailed it, but a lot of people felt that way, some Nintendo faithful were just trying to act like the Titanic wasn't about to sail right into the iceberg.
