Never donated blood, but I have donated plasma probably 100+ times since I turned 18 (Now 20).

I have absolutely no fear of needles but I don't like the idea of losing blood, or seeing my own blood in large quantities. I get lightheaded sometimes as it is and I hate feeling weak which I've heard can happen after you give blood.

I think I'll just get over any niggling doubts and do it. We don't get any money for it here though, which would have been nice.

I think they give you a drink of water/juice and some crisps/cookies or something.  I suppose that's worth it! :)

But seriously, the needle phobia is silly. I was scared of needles too. Then I got my allergy test. 150 shots later, I got over it.

I don't know... if so, then I still hadn't done it.

I give blood regularly for someone who doesn't ever go to a blood center. I'ld figure about 4-5 times a year, sometimes more... usually donate if I see a blood bus, snag free movie tickets most of the time.

How much do you guys in the states get paid to donate blood and plasma, also to D21lewis how much did you get for donating semen? :S

I haven't donated for a couple of months now, but the most recent rates were something along the lines of this:

You can donate two times per week.

Donation 1: $20
Donation 2: $30

5th Donation of Month: $20 bonus
7th Donation of Month: $30 bonus

A 4 week month would result in $250 and a 5 week month would result in $300
