lol yeah i saw amazon germany wii u site yesterday and they clearly say:
which means something like "please consider that nintendo didn't announce the price yet...price may be lower...blabla..."
it's just like "it won't cost more than 399,- but we don't really know the real price so yeah, 399,- for console and 69,- for the games"
btw that is the wii u site of german amazon with the games to preorder:

If it were $500 in the US I would call Reggie a lier. He said we would be pleasantly surprised about the price. Not surprised about how expensive it is.

it won't be higher in dollar as in euro. so not more than 399 dollar and since this is the highest prize amazon germany expects i would say lower than that.

George M. Cohan once said, "I don't care what you say about me, as long as you say something about me, and as long as you spell my name right". So, can bad news still be good publicity? This way Nintendo gets double the coverage, fake news and real news. Still ethics are an issue, people in the media need to be responsible whenever they are sharing news.

All news websites target page views for revenue so the more people will feel obligated to "discuss" their opinion of how flawed the news is the better. It doesn't matter if it is Nintendo, Sony, or MS... just whose "audience" follows up consistently taking the bait and generating site traffic.
It makes sense to me with Wii having so few new games that those fans are online more defending the upcoming console than MS or Sony fanboys who are better satiated with currently available gaming options.
Pricing much higher than the expected price is a good way for a site that has a preorder guaranteed price. This way they can start taking preorders and when the real price is announced they can just lower it. I'm surprised Amazon US has not done this yet.
Meh, I have the money. Just give me the release date already.
