LOOL

I am German and I work for something you could call Amazon rival (german equivalent of wallmart etc)

Guess what. The price is set so high because IF Amazon or any other company offers the console NOW for lets say 200 euros for people to preorder but then the console comes out for lets say 350 Amazon IS FORCED BY LAW to sell the console for the promised 250 euros.

Amazon is not willing to get either sued or lose alot of money so they come up with this expensive pricetag.

Amazon just made one small mistake. They didnt explain what i just did.

The real way to handle this is not offering it for pre order at all because there is no official price.

400 is high yes but its still low enough so enough people would be willing to pay 400 and therefore preorder at amazon.

Its a complex situation.

What i dont understand is the whole Drama. Amazon UK was also offering the WiiU but they did offer it for 199 pounds. So why dont people say LOOK WIIU NOT EXPENSIVE AT ALL YEAH! But they complain about the german amazon price tag FAIL.....

lol yeah i saw amazon germany wii u site yesterday and they clearly say:

which means something like "please consider that nintendo didn't announce the price yet...price may be lower...blabla..."

it's just like "it won't cost more than 399,- but we don't really know the real price so yeah, 399,- for console and 69,- for the games"

btw that is the wii u site of german amazon with the games to preorder:

http://www.amazon.de/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_167752307_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000653053&pf_rd_m=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&pf_rd_s=top-1&pf_rd_r=CB3E85924D7A4324A327&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=302851147&pf_rd_i=wii%20u

People: Please read what criss wrote here. I'm a german too and can confirm this: Amazon thinks the price will not higher than 399 Euro. And usually that means the US gets it for 399 Dollar. But it's their high prediction. Amazon did this, so you can preorder. No problem if the real price is lower, the preorders will be fulfilled to the lower price then.

That has to be a placeholder price. I don't think anyone who isn't a diehard Nintendo fan would pay a penny over $400 for a new and untested Nintendo console without a true killer app that appeals to casual and core demographics alike.

Nintendo is not clueless; they know this.

The industry as a whole has loved hating on Nintendo for over 10 years now. You get used to these things.

I'd guess they've hated it for far longer due to all the third-party restrictions back on the NES/SNES days. Nintendo was like the biggest bully around haha.

Everyone has a different jumping in point when it comes to games, but generally anyone who has been gaming since at least the early 90s should remember just how big of a bully Nintendo was dating further back to the original NES with their Official Nintendo Seal business (which in all fairness was to avoid the flood of crapware that plagued the Atari 2600 later in its product cycle) and practices that more or less chased developers away to Sony once the Playstation went from SNES CD-ROM add-on to new console platform after Nintendo cancelled their partnership.

Yah. How does Nintendo reverse that tho, it seems like it's been so long and lately they've been doing 50-50 things right things wrong, so it should at least be better.

What would they have to do more to break the stigma? Isn't the WiiU an appeal to 3rd parties?

How long will the hate last? (honest question)

this happens to just about every product in gaming that gets a lot of attention, that it is implied here that this only happens to nintendo is laughable
