Forums - Nintendo - Digital Foundry vs. Wii U at E3!

I noticed their analysis focused solely on third party games. And how easily do we all forget the claims of 3x the system memory (which is the prime bottleneck on PS360 performance?)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

We have all seen The Last of Us. Even an almost Total Nintendo only player like myself. The devs of that game have done some amazing things! The Wii U should be at least a tad bit stronger than the PS3. The question is how much more can visuals put out? Did the wii U have to do anything else? I do not believe so. Gilgamesh put out a Unreal 4 vs. PS3 graphics thread a while back. There was not much difference. Nintendo did not have to win the Graphics and power race because the race ran out of gas itself. Where else is there to go with visuals? It will be fin.

...watch the Star Wars 1313 and Watch_Dogs demos to see how good visuals can be at the current time. Not much of a difference between Unreal 4 and PS3 graphics? Jeez, have you seen the video?

i believe most just look at some tiny pictures and don't see any difference^^  even uncharted 2 or 3 on a 24'' screen on pc with 1280x720 in full screen with normal viewing distance doesn't look so good anymore then (not to speak about even bigger pc-screens with same viewing distance). sure art style and such things are still great but it isn't sharp anymore. or the pic of god of war ninpie posted. the ground as example looks horrible if you watch that pic in full size (and the pic is in 1080p and not 720p)

just compare the weapon in his hand in full size with the hammer of the unreal engine 4 guy in full size.

say him he has to look at both on full size in a new window and not in 400x250 or so^^  (no clue which pictures you posted my internet is too slow haha)

1. Nothing is on par with CGI and it never will be. It is physically impossible. UE4 is a PC graphics engine, not a console engine. The specs needed to run it properly cost thousands of dollars whosale to manufacture.

2. Generations are not decided by graphics, they are decided by overall technical advancement.

3. The look you prefer has no impact on what quality is being used. Graphics are nurmerical and measurable. There is little room for opinion when it comes to someone who understands what they are looking for.

4. Square Luminous engine didn't show much that couldn't be done in the current gen. The geometry was mostly simplistic and the effects have all been done before in current gen games. All it really had to show for itself was that it was a slight bit more diverse than the Crystal Engine.

You surely must be joking

Not at all. Some people may find that impressive, but I would say they are easily impressed.

The guys beard and the girls hair are the only really detailed things I see that could not be done on current gen hardware. That is also the only thing you saw apparently, since you went straight to only those screen shots to defend it. That is why I said "didn't show much more than what can be done this gen", because hair detail and hair physics are little more. Also, I don't recall seeing any advanced hair phsyics now that I think about it, just more detailed hair.

Other than that, it looks like the Crystal Engine.

omfg i saw the video only in 320p yesterday and it looked better than anything i ever saw on any console. every second of it. i just can't imagine how it would look in 1080p compared to best console games like uncharted or the last of us. i don't even believe games will look like that next gen because it is so much better.

Weird, considering Legends actually runs at 60 fps apparently. But they dont seem to be using direct feed so i understand.

LOl, for those people trolling here, stuffs like the real time lightning techniques, and the monstrous number of particles shown in both Unreal 4 an Luminous are impossible in current consoles.

I still think you are joking. Yes, only the hair. If you say so.

If you are going to compare shots then you at least try to compare those of the same variety. Otherwise it is a worthless comparison. In this case, you are comparing an young woman character modal that obviously has no major detail to an old man. This would have been a better shot to use.

What is the second set suppose to be? I remember seeing people doing that with photos and graphics back in 2006 when Crysis was the hot topic. Photo realism isn't hard to achieve for flat, simplistic environments. All you need to do is use photographic textures. That is only really an issue for RAM and not much of one.

lol that picture you posted looks like crap wtf?

€dit: those pictures

Even comparing both old men, the one shown in Luminous is ages ahead of this one in FFXIII, much much more detailed, and not to mention the poor lighting technique in FFXIII.

It's like if someone were trying to make people believe that MGS4 has same graphics that MGS3 and it is possible to run MGS4 on PS2 without any downgrade.
