Forums - Sony - the last of us has blew up the internet

i have been browsing the internet and noticed that the last of us has had huge hype since the gameplay showcase at e3. it has already managed well over a million views on youtube whilst halo has not yet passed a million. is this a sign of things yet to come.

Halo 4 recieved the biggest E3 preorder boost. The reason youtube views are low is because you can view the entire conference on XBL anyway.

The real game blowing up the webs is Watch Dogs. Best game of E3 for sure.

BTW OP, you are right on the impact of youtube views, I always use it to get a rough idea on how something is trending, especially with games and movies trailers. But in this instance, I think its mainly because Last of Us and Watch Dogs are the best looking new IPs in recent years, maybe even since Heavy Rain and Alan Wake, way back in 2010.

Im expecting it to do less than Uncharted because its an M rated title with Zero mass appeal should do pretty good with the core though

It has zombies. It has appeal.

I used to think that until i found out how much the highest grossing zombie film did.

4 ≈ One

I wouldn't compare this to halo 4 or , as it is a completely different kind of game. Lets compare it with Alan Wake, and see how much appeal a new third person survival IP with no multiplayer has to the PS3 audience.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Zombieland right ? And I think the Dawn of the Dead remake is second.
Love those films (especially the latter)

everyone i know with a playstation wants to buy the last of us so i'm pretty sure it will be a huge hit but i don't believe it will sell as good as halo 4. halo has something for core gamers and the fun factor you should have to sell huge amounts to every kind of gamer (maybe not the extreme casual gamers). i don't believe the last of us will have this "uhh that looks fun" to the average gamer playing only few games a year.

hope you understand what i mean with fun-factor. not that the last of us won't make fun just that it look so brutal and not for a short session making some stupid things with friends in the game without any logic^^

As long as people aren't expecting Gears first week numbers or Halo life-time numbers they won't be dissapointed. 4M life-time seems possible, not sure if it'll reach Uncharted numbers due to the fact it seems like a different beast entirely.

I hated Uncharted, but this game has me piqued.

Nah ive been taking preorders and it isnt reflective of real world hype, last of us did get a modest boost but halo hasexploded since its demo

So, you've been taking pre-orders from some small part of some random city, and it's supposed to reflect how the entire country will react to a game that's not coming out for a year?  No pre-order bonuses yet, or, there's no reason at all for anyone to reserve the game.  Much to early to say anything.

As far as the 4.5 million goes...  What does Resident Evil have to do with anything?  Is 4.5 Million sales a number that Resident Evil has physically taken away from everything else?  "You can't have 4.5 million sales, that's Resident Evil's number!"

Capcom's games as of late, have been terrible.  I mean who else loves LP spamming into grabs in SFxT?  But, you're supposed to back-dash, or use alpha counters...  And, you better not do any long combos, or damage scale will make them useless.  Instead of Pandora mode, and gems, someone should have been balancing the game.

Capcom wont make those numbers again, I promise...  Resident Evil 6 wont see the numbers RE5 made...  I'm done with capcom games unless there's Ruby Heart (I'll support my favorite character, but, that's as far as I'll go.)  you can believe there were many others.  Besides, you're only going to sell a fake Resident Evil off to people once...

People aren't looking for an action game when they want RE.

Anyway... Last of us... Interesting game... On a 3rd place console (in the US)  So, with the game coming out, 10 months away, wouldn't people need to get PS3's first, before reserving the game?  Naughtydog has a good track record.  And, they're more creative now than they ever was.  On top of that, they're going into something new... Not building on something already established.  So, there's no reason to doubt the game that's not coming for a really long time, on a console no one owns...

Guys. Call of Duty is an M rated game. Gears of War is M rated. GTA is M rated.

M rated doesnt mean it wont sell.

If Sony get a fantastic ad run for this, it will open to great numbers. I think we all know that word of mouth will take it aling too. The key thing for legs, will be the multiplayer. If it has addictive multiplayer, a great ad campaign and it turns out to be a great game... I can see it at least matching the original Uncharted.

The main problem with it, I think will be releasing outside of the Holidays.

I could have swore that ND said this would not have multiplayer.

anywho, new IPs never have huge openings.  I think this will have decent legs though based on quality and word of mouth.  with uncharted 3 approaching 6 million i feel like 3M LTD shouldn't be too unreasonable.  maybe more, maybe less but regardless a pretty solid success.

The vid is around 1.5m views, with vids from IGN and other channels its well above 2m. I looked through the comments and many people were saying "i will get a ps3 for this".

It not only appeals to Uncharted/ND fans but also zombie fans.

I expect 4m units lifetime.

Remember, many people here underestimate PS3 exclusives sales:
