Last year after E3 we came accross a rather worrying issue.

The forums Big 3 E3 threads were declining or stagnating in terms of post counts & views. 

This year, despite the dire quality of the press conferences, we have seen a tremendous rise in both post counts & views.

Perhaps the fate of the particular E3 conference relies more on hype than on quality?

2007 SONY E3 Conference Thread -- 752 Posts (55,138 Views)

Every saga has its beginning and this thread was HUUUUUUUGE for its time. The massive amount of views points to loads of lurkers!

2008 SONY E3 Conference Thread -- 603 Posts (29,418 Views)

In 2008 E3 had become scaled down severely, this led to lack of response and interest....and led to a decrease in posts.

2009 SONY E3 Conference Thread -- 1296 Posts (39,928 views)

A massive increase over 2008, as E3 came back to being "huge" and 2008 is seen as the year VGC's best members joined who were all in full form in 2009....2009 was a legendary year for Vgchartz!!!!!

2010 SONY E3 Conference Thread -- 1193 Posts (25,377 Views)

A decline to be sure of!!! And a massive decline in views too. No-one knows why this happened, post PS3's slim launch in 2009 and the forums growth one would have expected a YOY increase here, but it was not to be seen! The decline had begun!

2011 SONY E3 Conference Thread -- 1069 Posts (12,536 Views)

Disaster strikes us...DESPITE a new handheld reveal and new system price reveal we see a decline!!! The posts decreased by quite a bit....but the viewing decrease is alarming, its at an ALL TIME LOW.

***2012 Sony E3 Press Conference Thread*** -- 1277 Posts (28,034 Views)

Disaster averted this year!! SONY conference thread flew past last years post count and zoooomed past last years view count. The view count is particularly impressive. This conference thread was almost as popular as the 2009 one.

Massive Decline In views and in posts.....And all this with WiiU's reveal to be there at E3...I guess 3Ds had more hype or something? But still a huge decline considering a new games system was to be unveiled.

Nintendo's E3 Conference Thread 2012 -- 3,301 Posts (71,569 Views)

EXPLOSION!! If we were shocked by the decline last year, we were equally shocked by the increase in both posts & views this year. It truly is amazing! One of the reasons could be the Smeags effect... this beloved user was able to get to drum up more hype than ever before for a Nintendo conference thread!

A massive rise is seen in both posts & view count. MS wasn't even expected to announce a new system this time. Very impressive Increase!

What does the future hold?

A famous unnamed analyst has predicted that next year will see a MASSIVE increase once again in both views & post count.

Why you ask?

Well next year is when SONY/MS are expected to showcase their nex-gen machines + the launch lineup/future lineups. This potentially means many big franchises sequels will be shown and megatons could rain down on all of us. 

On the Nintendo side of things the analyst expects a decline in both posts & views...albeit not a big one as the WiiU will be coming into its own by then & the potential for a new Zelda/3D mario reveal will keep the gamers excited. 

Finally WELL DONE to all of you for making this E3 so successful in terms of post count & views

**UPDATE for NINTENDO** ...the 3Ds conference led to an extra 700 posts...MASSIVE increase and it took the Nintendo E3 thread past 3,000 posts...this also makes the thread the 2nd most popular on the nintendo forum EVER...behind 2008's MONSTER Super Smash Bros Brawl Official Thread which stands at 21K posts as of speaking.

Impressive analysis, Darth, through your new avatar shows that you are stuck in the past with the old era.

This is (nearly) the new Gamewise era. It seems that culling gamrFeed and banishing gamrReview have done wonders for the community. Or perhaps it's just been APM and manbearpig spamming (not at all like the high-quality spamming that you and I used to do).
