Forums - Nintendo - New info on Wii U controllers. PRO controller pic inside!

Can't believe Nintendo would rip off Microsoft's innovative gamepad design.  Not like modern console controllers aren't the culmination of years of design by many gaming companies, including Nintendo.

In anycase, the Xbox 360 controller is hands down my favorite controller to use to move around in 3D space, and this seems to be basically the same controller with a much nicer D-pad.  I won't know about the placement of the analogue sticks untill I play it myself, but they seem fine for 3D games.... they are far enough a part, which is my biggest problem with the dual shock design.  I am afraid it might feel a bit cramped when using the D-pad, though - but I imagine I'll almost exclusively be using the Wii U-Pad anyway.  I do wish the "wing" contours and triggers were more like a game cube controllers.  Also, does anyone else think this is a very SEGA looking controller?

Hahahahahahaha.

"Shocking rip-off Sony! What were they thinking!"

"What? They look nothing alike!"

This isn't just about asthetics... the point is the Dual Shock incorporated both analog sticks and force-feedback AFTER Nintendo had introduced both earlier that generation with the N64 controller and Rumble pack.  Every facet of the modern Playstation controller has been "borrowed" by previous Nintendo game pads.  Throw RF wireless in there too with the GC Wavebird pad.

The only "innovation" Sony made was making all buttons on their controller pressure sensitive as opposed to just the triggers like on the DC, GC and Xbox pads.  And now that the 4 face buttons, 2 analog sticks and 2 sets of shoulder buttons / triggers layout has become the standard for modern game pads, all of a sudden that makes Nintendo the copycat?

But then again, you can't really blame Sony for constantly ripping off their competitors, because when left to their own devices, they came up with this gem of a controller...

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

No, Nintendo can take ideas and use them as their own (which they already have been doing), but the point of this is to stop future arguments on who copied who, because it gets ridiculous and pointless. This thread is a good example.

Why are most companies obsessed with putting the analog sticks above the buttons?? I find it very uncomfortable (I hate the 360 controller)

Design-wise it is almost a 360 controller.

A majority of people would disagree the 360 controler fells a lot better in my hands.  The PS3 controler is to light and build for really small hands.  It might look like a 360 controller but is buil more like a PS controler since the analog sticks are perfectly even.  Also on a 360 controler the right analog stick is below the buttons in the perfect position.

This concept of holding the Wii U Pro Controller I just created!

Doesn't seems awkward from my point of view. Since I had experience X360 Controller, Gamecube Controller and Classic Controller Pro.

Nope. Dualshock design is perfect.

Matter of opinion.
