Yeah. Unlike this last generation, Nintendo has now seen the light and embraced the fact that success lies strictly with the hardcore. I, for one, can not wait to see what marvels this leads to!

There is no way in my mind that the 3ds will end up selling 150million units and Wii U 96million.

With the 3ds, there is now allot more competition from mobiles.
For Wii U, the main reason the Wii was so successfull is because it was by far the cheapest system and it was the only system at the time that could attract casual gamers. Wii U will be much more expansive, granted that it may be the cheapest system once again once the ps4 and Xbox3 launch, but M$ and Sony made it pretty clear that they will also go after casual gamers, stealing some of their market (especially M$ cause Sony is rly failing at it atm)

That being said, I don't think in anyway that Nintendo is doomed. It will do rly good, I predict around 60 million to possibly 75 million for Wii U, and probably 85 to 90 million for 3DS. Both will be big success, it's just that Wii and DS were phenomenal success that will be probably impossible to beat now in the current state of this industry.

3DS' ceiling is probably around 60-70 million.  Look at how badly it's selling in NA/Europe in the off-season, even with Kid Icarus and Mario Tennis being out.  NA is supposed to be 3x bigger than Japan with Nintendo sales, and we're doing worse than Japan right now.  I think smartphone/ tablets have hurt Nintendo in NA a lot more than anywhere else, and I think Nintendo's only hope to even reach 70 million within four years is to pump out as many AAA franchise games as possible.  That's all they can do at this point.  Handheld market is completely different than it was in 2004 when DS launched.

You may be right. I know that the handheld market is different now, that is why I said the 3ds wont reach 150million, but I think your 60-70million is a little to low IMO. The thing is that the DS lasted 7 years (even more since today there is sill game released for it). I could see the 3DS last 7 years like it's predecessor did, especially because of little things like the fact that it can receive system updates and that developers can use bigger cardridges if they need to. It is already known as a cheap system at 169,99 and in 7 years the price can only go down (unless there is a massive redesign and still I don't see a redesign model costing more than 189$ IMO). In its first year it sold around 15million units (despite the terrible terrible start), that is more than the DS and the DS's first year wasnt even it's best so I think the 3DS can continue selling atleast 15million units a year for atleast a other 2/3 years, thats 60million right there in only 4years.

With the the 3DS being cheap and becoming cheaper, I think it will be known as a system that anyone can/should buy, like the DS. Every parents didnt mind buying the system for their kids, I even met a family that had 3 kids and 5DSs (one for every kid and 2 for both parents). I know it is not selling as well right now in NA, but I think It's just a matter of time for the library to have a game for everyone. Once the library is big enough almost everyone will end up jumping the fence to buy that system cause it is already so cheap. Also since the begining of 2012, NA did'nt see alot of big new games other than KI:U, compared to Japan who had alot of big games, some that are clearly meant for japan other that americans are beging to play (fire emblem, Kingdom Heart)

Dont get me wrong, I agree that things are different right now and that there is no way it could reach 150 or even 100 million. But I think it could reach 80 to 90mil. Also if you are right that would mean that the 3DS would sell less than the PSP, and to be honest I'm having a terribly hard time imagining the 3DS doing worst than the PSP. (not that the psp did'nt do good, but more because I think Nintendo is doing almost everything right for the 3DS while I think Sony was doing everything wrong for the psp)

Wii u maybe if it gets a lot of third party support...But the ds was an absolute beast of a machine catering to almost every type of gamer. The 3ds still lacks that casual audience and it doesn't have it's killer app like nintendogs, brain training,Professor Layton or the Ace Attorney series.I need to see some new ip's become sucessfull on it like on the ds,Plus we haven't really seen the 3d use in something more than a gimmick apart from mario3d.I am sure we will see some unique suff soon as we already are on the e-shop but I need to see more

The 3DS for its first year and an half is doing already better than DS for my teastes.
It's possible the WiiU will be better than Wii because:
a.) The union of wiimote, tablet controller and classic contoller and high-end graphics will likely give a lot of interesting opportunities to developers, both for singleplayer and for multiplayer.
b.) I hope Nintendo has realized how important games like Mario Kart, SMB or Mario Party are for them, so I hope they will spend bigger budgets on them.
c.) (maybe) the WiiU will have a decent (at least) 3rd party support.

The Wii U should easily be 'better' in my opinion. The only games I played a lot on Wii was Metroid Prime 3 (well, I completed it once), Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. I also played Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Kart Wii for a bit but went back to the DS version after a while. I think that 75% of my play-time on Wii was actually Gamecube- and Virtual Console games. The Wii U should (at least hopefully) revive F-Zero and Star Fox while improving Zelda and Metroid, which along with 2D/3D Mario and Super Smash Bros should easily make it surpass the Wii.

The 3DS will have a tough time reaching the DS levels though. The DS pretty much perfected all of their first party titles, so I guess pretty much all they can do this time around is to keep doing what they're doing while adding more content and more franchises (such as Super Smash Bros. SSFIV did great so it looks very promising). Overall, I do think that the 3DS will have more/better games that appeals to me compared to the DS, but even if it doesn't it should still be great enough.

Answer to the OP: Yes.

3DS now had a system seller (Mario Kart7, Mario 3D Land, MH3G, etc)
I hope Nintendo can repeat it with Wii U and not making the same mistake like 3DS launching.
If WiiU having a great starting line up, I have no doubt they will catch the old market, "new" market (core gamer)

I really had a great time with my SNES, even this console doesn't have a lot Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games. And I'm sure a lot of Ninty Fans agreed with me about this one. So... Nintendo really should got 3rd party support for WiiU and 3DS.

I like the 3DS' first year over the DS.

Super Mario 3D Land + Kid Icarus Uprising + SSFIV + Mario Kart 7 + Zelda: OoT + RE Revelations >>> Mario 64 DS, Brain Training, Mario Kart DS, Advance Wars, Nintendogs, and Feel The Magic. And Japan has Monster Hunter Tri G, FF Theaterhytmn, Fire Emblem, and Kindgom Hearts as well.

I don't give a crap if Kid Icarus Uprising doesn't sell as much as Nintendogs did on the original DS. I know which of the two I'd rather play.

The only thing I really, really would love to see on 3DS is Advance Wars 3DS please.

I think the pricing structure of 3DS software is what needs to change. I'd gladly bite on Metal Gear Solid 3D or Tales of Abyss, but at $19.99 a pop (digital download) ... $40 is way too much.

I think if the 3DS can keep its momentum and pick up in the West then it should be able to sell close to the DS. It is already on pace with I believe. The same goes with the Wii U. Remember that Nintendo all but abandoned the DS and Wii in its final year. Both have been on life support. The wii has been in a coma for a while! If they support the Wii U, unlike what they did for the Wii it should go in to sell well. Price is no object if the controllers are a hit.

The controllers will not be a hit. Compare the concept of motion control to the concept of tablet gaming for a moment. One is exciting, the the other might have some cool uses, but you really have to put in effort to imagine them, unlike, "Motion? Awesome!"

Well, as a business with all the investors involved, expanding your market share would be great. With a shuffle of a new hand, let's hope their new controller does not fall into oblivion where it hardly captures any type of market's attention. Worst case scenario hopefully is where PS3 is now... but let losses.

Hopefully.

i think next gen will be better than this gen but they will most likely not sell as much but who knows what they have up their sleeves
