Knighted? an award or something?
Anyway, I love the guy, I am glad he is getting attention!

This british honor have become like a popularity contest over the years , like a prom queen thing,
Seriously Elton John..... Elton John??!! , why don't they knight Justin Beiber and be done with it, it's going to happen sooner or later.
Knighthoods don't mean anything any more. The Queen doesn't even decide, it's whoever the government likes at the moment (remember cash for honours scandal?).
Everyone who is knighted should have to partake in a yearly joust.

It means he is a knight and his name is now Sir Jonathan Ive.

My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right

You dont think Jonathan Ive deserves a knighthod? He has made a very large and lasting imprint on society.... no question about it. He designed the ipod, ipad, iphone, imac, macbook pro, macbook air etc etc... thats pretty impressive. and so for his contribution to design and the way in which he pretty much revolutionised the way we consume music he fully deserves the award. do not confuse knighthoods with military awards... they arent remotely releated.

Good grief the way you guys talk about apple products is just too damn sad " revolutionize the way we _____ " , " important part in our society" , yeah because having snazzy looking phone is a vital part in our lives , also you do know that this award is no longer exclusive to British nationality, it's just who's popular in media at the moment , I bet there are a bunch of rappers who were awarded this award
John Cleese, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are not knights.
Jonathan Ive is.
I don't think that's fair.

that was mainly to do with gaining an honourary peerage, and gaining power in the Lords, and is nothing to do with being knighted... ffs, say what you want about the various honour systems but just because some are driven by politics doesnt mean this isnt deserved. |
Was still paying to influence an award officially conferred by the Crown. The government still draws up the recommendations for knighting, and you think they don't put people who've donated to the Party on it?
Deserved? lol. The lists don't read like ones of people that deserve recognition.

I just want to make it clear to people abroad that somehow think this is worthy of respect that this award is worthless.

John Cleese deserves it probably, the other two don't... not yet... not by a long way. The fascination with Hugh Laurie in the states is very odd imo. Stephen Fry is popular for being...er ... himself. Jonathan Ive is a world changing designer despite what the anti apple brigade here seem to want to believe. |
For the work they've done together, for one thing. Stephen Fry for being a successful actor, author and activist, and a very well loved personality.
Hugh Laurie... I suppose basing it on House alone would be unfair. Perhaps he can wait another 20 years and then get it like every other actor.
EDIT: As for Jonathan Ive... well, he'd be deserving of an OBE, but the knighthood should really be reserved for exceptional people who have contributed throughout their lives. I don't actually think Fry and Laurie deserve it now, but if Ive gets one, then they should too.
