Pretty good post. The losing team always tries the most, at least if they don't want to lose.

I'd hate to see what you consider a pretty bad post...

Hey, his post already has a bunch of replies. A good post gets people talking. Now a pretty bad post could be "Sony dropped from first place at the beginning of the new generation but despite their mistakes are still trying fo not go bankrupt". See, that's just a boring way to say this hahaha

So they lost A LOT of money... they lost a bunch of exclusives, they lost market share...

Oh yeah, makes total sense. Sony did benefit greatly this gen 8)

lost a lot of money but released more exclusive games/experiences than their competitors combined, secured a ton 3rd party support and grew almost ALL of their internal studios - so where's does that matter?

lost a bunch of exclusives, more like other people got play more games, I don't consider going from exclusive to multiplat a "loss"(especially when the games were never exclusive in the first place)

lost market share but got more support from the industry as a whole than the market leader so again the relevance is drawing a blank

looks at PlayStation gains  in the past 3 years every year since launch, well yes, yes they did benefit greatly this gen

Wow.... I guess the ps3 was a better investment than the ps2 then (8

^^the main problem with nintendo fans, becaue where the hell he got that from I'll never know

wait wait, I can't resist:

what do you think the ps2 did differently besides being first and affordable that made it such a massive success

Where did I get that from lets see.....

For you it didnt matter that they lost billions, as long as they had third party support.... which they ALREADY HAD.

But wait.... all that third party support was exclusive for the ps2 on the last gen, but it doesnt matter if the ps3 lost a few exclusives right? Yes, I guess that was Sony´s plan all along.

Lost market share but got MORE support? Are you high, they didnt get more support on the ps3 that the one they already had on the Ps2. Remember, back at the ps2 they got the most support from third parties I can actually remember right now.

So going by your logic....Sony is fine with losing marketshare (which they bragged with the ps2, but suddendly is not important with the ps3, right?) losing billions, and losing exclusive games which helped the ps2 destroyed the competition. It makes so much sense right now, I was blind a minute ago, but I can see the light now. Oh thank you lord

and now for your question,  difference between ps2 and ps3; Well ps2 had all the third party exclusives which helped it become the leader market by a LOT. They didnt cause Sony to lose billions, so Sony was doing great financially too. It was welcomed between gamers and non gamers; just a few things to point out

viva los cherry picking

most 3rd parties hated the ps3 from the start, many of the major one's often rejected it completely

and I never said they were ok with it, I'm comparing the ps3 to it's competitors, you see in gaming, market share would determine your performance and how your supported right, except this gen, that has been proven to be bullshit (see Nintendo wii's 30 million unit lead that most the industry didn't give a single fuck about)

What did Sony show this gen: you don't need market share nor do you need massive billions to effect your business, to Sony that stuff was icing on the cake, remember they made the ps3! they knew it had no chance of penetrating the market like the ps2, they knew it was going to lose a lot of money, and they knew it was going to be hard to develop for yet they still did it. I mean I find it baffling how people keep bringing up the loses as some profound thing that was totally unexpected, "OMG you guys guess what I just figureded out, consoles sold at a missive loss.....lose money O_O *and the crowd goes "NOOO WAY! REALLY"*!!!

you can only judge a console based on what it could realistically and logically do, and under those circumstances the ps3 did amazing, it's a console that cost 600 dollars and is still here, currently leading the home console market, and received a ton of support, what more could you ask for?

you guys just have to accept that Sony was fine with that, but then how could the ps3 be a failure, forums would be baron wastelands (except for Sony fans) you'd have nothing to look forward to....except the next 2D Mario lol

"and now for your question,  difference between ps2 and ps3; 1. Well ps2 had all the third party exclusives which helped it become the leader market by a LOT. 2. They didnt cause Sony to lose billions, so Sony was doing great financially too. 3.It was welcomed between gamers and non gamers; just a few things to point out"

1. the ps3 also had and still gets 3rd party exclusives so who care if it's market leader or not, that won't change the game at all so why does it matter

2. you got me there it didn't lose money, ps3 still got a ton of support regardless but that's true...

3. lol it's ironic becasue casual games on ps2 did no better than they did on ps3, but there's a deeper meaning behind why you said that isn't it, I feel sorry for you guys man, really I do

So, you are saying that this is the best Sony could do with the ps3? Sony expected this? They didnt expect the console to sell more (it will sell, no matter what, this gen starts when we say so, people will get a 2nd job to buy it ´cause they apreciate the PS brand)all the "we're number one, gamers will upgrade to the ps3" and all the bullshit?

And NO, the current market leader is the wii o.O wtf

Although, Sony would have garnered more success had they been in a preferable position, but despite such odds, Sony provided continued support in accomodating their fans by distributing solid list of franchises, and new IPs.

Some new perspective can be gained, and a refreshing outlook can be reached by definitely not being sober.

Let''s take a step back into the current console generation, and reminisce on the fact that SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT gained a lot by loosing a lot..for example:

Sony probably realized when the ps3 began to fall into a very very fairly distant third place that being a cocky company isn''t always a good thing.... saying things like WE ARE THE MARKET LEADER(even though they were), and announcing that THE NEXT GENERATION DOESN''T START UNTIL WE SAY IT DOES, made them very cocky, then again at the time the playstation 2 did reach and surpass the 100 MILLION CONSOLE MILE STONE THAT ONLY 3 PURE VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS HAVE HIT, TWO OF WHICH ARE PLAYSTATION SYSTEMS, either way, sony did fall behind, and making claims that people would get a secound job to buy a playstation 3 for $600 us dollars, and over 1000 us dollars in other countries wasn't very wise.... hence they lost hundreds of millions on a ps3 that wasn't selling much software at the time to recoup the cost of the system, and a ps3 that was selling on par if not below GBA numbers while the DS was hitting it's prime..... in summary SONY LEARNED THAT LAUNCHING AT A HIGH PRICE AND EXPECTING THE WORLD TO BUY YOUR VIDEO GAME SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY JUST BASED ON BRAND NAME, AND ALLOWING MICROSOFT TO NUT CHECK YOU WITH DIRTY ADVERTISING IS GOING TO GET YOU TO LOSE A LOT IF NOT ALMOST ALL THE MARKET SHARE YOU HAD IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY JUST 6-7 YEARS AGO....... and..... fall into 3rd place, looking like a loser cocky company that get''s what it get''s for being cocky.....

- because sony fell into 3rd place, sony gained a lot.... besides the fact they know being cocky, and launching at a high price was suicide, especially with two potential AAA ip for the first 6 months with resistance and motorstorm being the only games driving your console....

BECAUSE OF THIS GEN AND THEIR FAILURES SONY ALLOWED THE CREATION OF NEW EXCLUSIVE PLAYSTATION FRANCHISES

RESISTANCE

UNCHARTED

HEAVENLY SWORD(after microsoft said fuck you to ninja theory)

WARHAWK/STARHAWK

MAG

LAST GUARDIAN

JOURNEY

FLOWer

FLOW

PIXEL JUNK

and more....

because of competition and struggling for surivial sony created HUGE HUGE game franchises..... one being UNCHARTED, which has sold nearly 20 million copiues on all platforms to date... and will probably hit 25-30 million if they stop releasing UNCHARTED games all together, which is huge.....

Sony allowed Assassins Creed to become multiplatform, as well as GTA, this probably allowed the funding for AC II AC III and more AC games to be made... because of the game''s multiplatform success.... AC is now in line with COD as one of the top 5 biggest selling franchises of this console generation.....

SONY in order to keep competitive killed of PS2 backwards compatibility to cheapen he ps3 up quickly.... but in result, gained HD COLLECTIONS, remastered HIGH DEFINITION versions of PLAYSTATION 2 original  IP, like METAL GEAR SOLID 2/3, GOD OF WAR I and II, RESIDENT EVIL, SILENT HILL.... JAK AND DAXTER.... and more...... BECAUSE OF THE SUCCESS OF THE FIRST HD COLLECTION, GOD OF WAR HD COLLECTION, WHICH SOLD OVER 3 MILLION COPIES TO DATE.... 3RD PARTY COMPANIES HAVE TAKEN NOTE AND ARE RELEASING MORE HD COLLECTIONS ON BOTH PLAYSTATION 3 AND XBOX 360..... THIS IS INTRODUCING OLD PLAYSTATION 2 FRANCHISES, WITH TROPHIES/ACHIEVENEMNTS to new players.... in summary...... being competitive brought HD collections to this generation of consoles...... and sony are making smart ways of making money of ps2 games on psn..... without PS2 BC, people are having to buy PS2 games for 10 bucks.... meaning easy revenue for sony..... and everyone is happy since the games are made to work on ps3 almost perfectly... or should be...

what else can one add to this post? Share yout thoughts.... have sony become better through their failures with the playstation 3? Look at Vita...... getting huge ip on a constant basis right before E3 an after E3.... while psp had little ip to keep it going.... against the DS lite..

i dont see no gains

only meaniingfull excluisve this gen imo is uncharted sony dont have nothing in the FPS and TPS genres something MS owns and TLG hasnt been releasesed and has no release date

sony didnt allow any games to be multi MS bought that outwhich imo cost sony alot of marketshare

lol @ SONY in order to keep competitive killed of PS2 backwards compatibility to cheapen he ps3 up quickly

early EU PS3s had ps2 B/C w/o the emotion engine they took ps2 B/C out for money to be gained by the remasters and for people to buy ps2s instead

                                                                      Play Me

This post is weird...

Long Story Short, to prevent the PS3 from being a failure, Sony was forced to cater to the core gamer, and essentially made PS3 the best Sony console from a 1st party perspective. Look at PS3 now, it's paying off. They could reach 2nd place this gen despite all the bad decisions that were made.

I said to myself when I was done posting, that you would respond with the real reason why you don't like Sony (it's same as almost all the other guys I've had arguments on this site with) and like clock work you delivered

hence the me feeling sorry for you part

and when did I ever say it wasn't?
