The games are just getting boring after each installment
Madden: who the hell keeps buying thease games
Halo:the triology was supposed to be finished, why make a new one just cause it will sell
2d Mario: games are a cash in which appeal to the nostalgic value and are ok games that barely hold a candle light to the orignal 2d games of the nes and snes era
| Nem said: The whole first person shooter genre. I just never got why its so popular. Every game has the same gameplay with a different face... i dont understand how people dont get tired. I got bored of FPS' when i played my first 2 back on the PC (and they are pretty bad to play on controllers aswell). I would like to see the rise of the MMORPG genre on consoles though. I believe that the tablet controller and hard drive on the WiiU gives it the perfect handling support for such games. |
That shows how little you know about the genre. Compare ARMA 2 to Tribes: Ascend or Bioshock to Halo. I can understand saying there has been saturation of Cod-style shooters but to say every FPS "has the same gameplay with a different face" is ludicrous. That's like saying every racer is the same because we get a lot of racing sims.
Hopefully CoD, so that halo, the best franchise of all time, can regain some market share.
As for other games....hmmm.... Gears of war becuase it is terrible. I seriously dont get how anyone could enjoy playing that shit.
:)

My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right
Which gaming series need to die or decline in the future?
The ones i dont like.

I don't think they need to make something new constantly like you are implying. Those are enough, for now.
One of the really brilliant things about a growing market is that next to no series need to die or decline. From last generation to this one, virtually no franchises decreased in size. The very rare exceptions are series that changed ownership and a few (but not many) Ps3 exclusives. The only multiplatform series that have properly decreased from last generation to this is Crash Bandicoot and Need For Speed.
Even Grand Theft Auto - which went from being the best selling game of the generation to just a large game - barely even dropped in sales, from 23 million with San Andreas to 20 million with GTA IV.
Games might lose market share in their genres, but very, very rarely do they significantly decrease in size. The only ones it's possible that will significantly drop are really Nintendo's games, because they've been so immense this generation, and if WiiU is just a moderate success (40-60 million), they simply can't sell 30 million. Still, they'll be selling over 20 million on the 3DS, and most likely will keep doing so on future Nintendo handehelds.
Whenever a series has a proper decline nowadays, it's because the entire genre is decreasing. We saw this with music games this generation, and we've seen it partially with Nintendogs-style games and traditional racers.
If Call of Duty or 2D Mario sees a giant reduction in sales, it's because the whole shooter genre or 2D platformer genre takes a major population hit.
