Forums - Gaming - Which gaming series need to die or decline in the future?

the problem i have with the OPs line of thinking in general is that there is no way to be sure that people would play something else if these games did not exist. Would people start to play SonicAllStars or Modnation in lieu of MK?? Would people play another FPS instead of COD?? would they play Rayman instead of Mario?? Some how I really doubt it, it would be nice, but wishful thinking at best.

OT I just think COD doesnt need to be a yearly franchise, every other year sure. BUt I cant stand the IW/MW games so as far as im concerned i treat it as its not a yearly franchise. Casual sports games or what people like to play nothing we can do about that

Of course they'd play something else if the series did'nt exisit. I guess they could play nothing.

Dude I've heard of two series from that list, and one is a little kids game that sold well on DS...but I do grant you Xenoblade Chronicles.

The point remains that you were 100% factually wrong to state that 'they [Nintendo] don't make new IPs anymore', the games I mentioned clearly prove otherwise.  I've pointed this out before, but the problem is not by anymeans Nintendo refusing to invest in new IPs (or even I would argue a significant number), but the nature of those individual new IPs they produce.  Nintendo should aim for at least one new IP a generation that fulfils all the following criteria: is critically acclaimed, achieves sales of 1m plus and finally has high production values.  As we seem to be discounting Nintendogs, all of Nintendo's new IPs this generation has failed to achieve at least one (though I guess Xenoblade Chronicles could potentially break 1m if it is lucky).  Games which were fantastic and did well in reviews like Soma Bringer (as you aren't aware of it, it is Secret of Mana on steriods basically, and my cousin referred to it as 'RPG of the generation a few years ago) have failed to sell incredibly well.  Nintendo has many new IPs, just none that fulfil all criteria, in the way that Uncharted or LBP does for example.

from my experience, most people play nothing, unless they were already fans of the genre

Well okay if we're getting technical here, yes I was wrong, Nintendo still makes new IPs...but obviously it was implied (and you should have inferred) that I meant AAA type games. I'm seriously not even anti-Nintendo, I have a wii upstairs I could go play right now if I wanted...I just call things the way I see em. I'm glad you agree Ninty hasn't made any this gen on the level of Uncharted, LBP, Resistance, Infamous...or even a 2nd tier game for that matter on par with MAG or Heavenly Sword.

I definitely think Nintendo should focus on a new IPs next gen like you also said. They should be able to make one every 3 years, with their established stuff like Super Mario, Zelda, etc. filling in the gaps. It shouldn't be that hard if Miyamoto is as good as everyone says.

I definitely need to practice my English :P

Sorry, for some reason I was in the mood to correct spelling/grammar errors last night. Your English is just fine, I'm sure.

The 2D Mario games: essentially the same game each but with a different coating of paint. The 3D Mario games are however unique each instalment due to the amount of different ways the mechanics of the game can pan out.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Resident Evil series must die off. The RE series has kept on going down in quality ever since the great Resident Evil released on the PS. Besides Resident Evil 4 the recent RE games have been average quality.
Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Tekken series both peaked years ago in both sales and quality. Fighting games do not sell like they did in the past.

There are some really good classic series that deserve an upgrade ever now and again. More quality new IP games should be developed instead of reviving old mediocre game series. Keep the classic game series going but ease off on those mediocre game series that do not sell.
