It's amazing how close PS3 came to the 360 this week in North America. Also incredible to see MW3 PS3 > MW3 360 by quite a large margin.

Ok, I've been trying to figure this out. What's up with the sudden 500K boost to 360's WW hardware sales? People keep saying adjustments, but I'm calling BS.

Less than 1 million without supply issues? 2011: 730k on shelves (supply issues due the Japan tsunami/earthquake). 900k is to be ok on shelves this time of the year... I expect a little over... less than 900k is unlikely (no supply issues news). |
So out of 5 years worth of data only 2 of those years can be used because the other 3 have issues and on top of that, those 2 years worth of data are over 3 years old now and out of date with what is happening in the world today........ yeah that's too inconclusive to say the PS3 has to have over 1 million sat on shelves this time of year.
Overall slow, but interesting week, 3DS still WW leader, but down, PS3, PSP, PSV and Wii up WW, XB360 and DS down, PS3 second and closer to XB360 in USA, widening the lead on 3DS there. Star Wars boost on Kinect already faded away in USA, but Kinect has still a very strong weekly tie ratio in UK.
3DS still leader, but even 3DS+DS sales are horribly lower than what DS ones alone used to be. Deliberately almost killing DS gave part of its sales to 3DS, but a huge part of them got instead lost.

im not saying it will move as much Vitas as it moves Xboxs but it will move some thousand maybe a milion. |
It won't. It'll move maybe 40k for the Vita one week, on top of the holiday boosts, but nothing major.
What you've got to remember is that, what the Vita REALLY needs, is exclusives. Currently, it doesn't have all that many quality exclusives, and so 'watered down' ports of the PS360/WiiU versions will not really make a huge difference, similar to the increase in sales for the Wii when a new COD is released, for example.
When the Vita gets exclusives, like Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter etc., then the sales will increase. No ports will do that.

Why are you acting surprised? The same thing happened with the 3DS. Vita will continue to struggle until it gets big AAA games. We'll get some release dates at E3. |
Not really. At this point, the 3DS was nearing 3mil in its life with no holiday advantage in any territory, whilst the Vita has yet to pass 2mil, and had holiday sales in Japan. At this point, the 3DS price-cut was 5 weeks away. And we also knew of Monster Hunter 3G, and 4, and Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land, and Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Ocarina of Time 3D, were coming to the 3DS within 12 months, likely more. All bar MH4 have been released.
The Vita, on the other hand, only really has Gravity Rush as a quality exclusive which I can think of on the way which could sustain sales in Japan, and Mortal Kombat to lightly boost sales in the West. The issue is, there's not enough AAA titles on the way. I'm sure more will be announced at E3, but will it make THAT much of a difference in the short-term?
The excuse 'wait for the AAA' titles doesn't really work, when there's not a huge number announced.

You either dont like the adjustments or dont like the xbox.
But whatever, the more adjustments the better.
Yay!!!

It'll move much more then just 40K, remember Assassin's Creed PSP? It's at 1.5 million sales. Call of Duty PSP? That's at 2 million as well. I think people are underestimating the power of CoD and Assassin's Creed here, it may not move millions, but certainly more than just 40K.

Yes, and they launched around 4 years after the system launched, and acted as an 'evergreen' title (FW for Bloodlines was 35k, COD 6k). IF a console which has an install base of 50 million can only shift 35,000 copies of a game in its first week, what hope will a console which (at the time) will have 4-5mil install base?
No-one's gonna go out and think 'Assassin's Creed/COD on the Vita? I must go out and buy a Vita NOW!', are they? As such, a 40k boost in HW sales seems about right. And, looking at these figures, even that looks a bit tricky...
I'm not denying the sales potential, and yes, they'll likely hit a million. But HW boost will be next to nonexsistance.
