Forums - Sales - Global HW&SW Up!(28st April)

I think that PSVITA is doing average WW, but In Japan is bad indeed.

I think that after E3 sales will pick up.

What are you basing that assumption on?  I personally think it'll do worse as time goes by.  The 3DS already has an established userbase (~18M) and people hardly buy two dedicated handhelds as the smartphone replaced the second one people usually keep in their pockets.  The fact that next generation hardware is just around the corner; the Vita will soon be forgotten by both gamers and developers alike.  Sony really should have released this thing a year ago.

god the vita is looking bad :(

The Wii is looking bad, the Vita's (for a new system release) sales is looking pretty hopeless.  Sony, really needs to give this until this holiday and if sales don't pick up, just drop it!!!

Looks like the Vita is REALLY starting to struggle now...

And I'm surprised. I expected the 3DS/PS3 to be closer, if not the PS3 ahead! I don't think it'll have much of a chance now :/

Also, Xenoblade around 25k again this week? Not bad!

Why are you acting surprised? The same thing happened with the 3DS.

Vita will continue to struggle until it gets big AAA games. We'll get some release dates at E3.

Not really. At this point, the 3DS was nearing 3mil in its life with no holiday advantage in any territory, whilst the Vita has yet to pass 2mil, and had holiday sales in Japan. At this point, the 3DS price-cut was 5 weeks away. And we also knew of Monster Hunter 3G, and 4, and Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land, and Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Ocarina of Time 3D, were coming to the 3DS within 12 months, likely more. All bar MH4 have been released.

The Vita, on the other hand, only really has Gravity Rush as a quality exclusive which I can think of on the way which could sustain sales in Japan, and Mortal Kombat to lightly boost sales in the West. The issue is, there's not enough AAA titles on the way. I'm sure more will be announced at E3, but will it make THAT much of a difference in the short-term?

The excuse 'wait for the AAA' titles doesn't really work, when there's not a huge number announced.

-Assassins Creed
-Bioshock
-Call of Duty

Those are 3 big games already promised for the system.

PSP is doing amazing numbers! Will it outlast Wii?

Doubtful, but handhelds always tend to last longer. Both will sell another 10-20mil from here, depending on SW support and pricing for their next gen equivalents.

Same with DS.

Nah, DS will stop selling before both Wii and PSP. It already shows in the weekly charts

You forget about Pokemon B&W2. That'll boost it by a lot...

And I see 10mil for DS, less than the other two, but still selling.

Pokemon will boost it? Maybe about a 50k boost for one week but not more. Software doesn't boost the hardware so late in the cycle, especially when it sells sub 50k each week.

It would be nice if you could read my initial post, so I'll highlight some points (bolded in the main text):

  • Not really. At this point, the 3DS was nearing 3mil in its life with no holiday advantage in any territory, whilst the Vita has yet to pass 2mil, and had holiday sales in Japan
  • knew of Monster Hunter 3G, and 4, and Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land, and Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Ocarina of Time 3D, were coming to the 3DS within 12 months, likely more.
  • only really has Gravity Rush as a quality exclusive
  • there's not enough AAA titles on the way
  • THAT much of a difference in the short-term?
  • The excuse 'wait for the AAA exclusive titles' doesn't really work, when there's not a huge number announced.
As I say, I'm not denying that those three games are likely to come out and be system sellers (though, after the cancellation of Assassin's Creed for the 3DS, which was in a much stronger position, nothing's a given), but they aren't AAA exclusives, instead, 'watered-down' ports. Because of that, they will never sell as well, or make as much of an impact, as their home-console equivalents. The 3DS had 2 Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Resident Evil, Kid Icarus, Monster Hunter and more AAA exclusives in its first 12 months on the market. I don't think this number of exclusives will occur for the Vita.
Despite what Sony say, people like to get handhelds to play easy, 5-minute games on their handhelds, with the option for longer play. That's what the Vita needs. Exclusives with short-burst play appeal. And if they aren't announced at E3, then, well...Sony may just be in trouble.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

boring numbers. prototype 2 did okay, but nothing special. I can't wait 2 see how maxpayne 3 does in 9 days.

I don't really remember all of the weeks. Thanks for telling me. (The Vita is still doing horrible.)

Assassins Creed and Bioshock aren't ports. They are made specifically for Vita.

Since Vita wasn't announced as a system for Black OPs 2, I'm assuming Call of Duty Vita is also an original game.
