Forums - Gaming - PS Vita in USA : A BIG Success for Sony !!

Well, it's not horrific. It's just not good, or average. It's pretty slow selling and is trending well below the 'horribly slow selling' 3DS pre-price cut. But it all comes down to perspective.

If you expected it to fail, you'll be happy. If you expected it to do alright, you'd be alright. And if you expected it to do well, or match 3DS/DS/PSP sales, you'd be unhappy.

Obviously Sony expected it to fail, hence they're happy

That was before Japan launch ;)

After sales in Japan that 200k in second month looks resonably good

Right, if the 3DS was being called doomed we have every right to call Vita clinically dead.

Yeah, but it was a 5 week-month I believe. So it sold, on average, 40k a week in America, only 2 weeks after its launch (launched on 22nd February I believe). I'm not saying that's bad by any means. Infact, it's average. But it's still trending down and sales are continuing to decrease WW, now trending below Wii. So, this month may be OK, but if next month is below 120k, which is possible (as it's one less week, so 30k a week on average), then the Vita could be in trouble. I hope it doesn't happen. But it doesn't seem as though anything can stop it from happening, sadly.

If you were to view everything using one definitive measure of 'good' and 'bad', then yes. Effectively.

Actually saw one of these at work today, some kid had it. Looked like a glorified PSP more than anything.

Just an OT comment really, the sales were meh last month NPD.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I think April will the lowest month for Vita since there is only like one game that is named and most known, that is Disgaea 3. It's not a system seller by any means, but that doesn't mean it's not a great game. The original game sold 240k, but the PS3 had a larger user base(the game released mid-2008).

May seems like a much better month, but not by much since 1) Mortal Kombat Vita is a port of the 2011 game and fighting games don't really do all that well on a handheld. 2) Resistance: Burning Skies might one of best selling titles based on the hype, but the series isn't well known and has gone down sales recently. It'll mostly likely do well regardless, but not all that great.

June almost the same as May. Gravity Rush well most likely do very well, but we don't know exactly since it's so far away and LittleBigPlanet may or not release in June. It might, plus it won't do as well as the PSP title because of the user base. Both titles will increase sales indeed.

So all in all, by the time June is over. The Vita might hit 3 or 4 million (not sure about Japan but Gundam and Persona 4 will increase sales as well, probably will reach 5 million) with the best of luck and more titles available to buy. Hopefully a price cut will come, but as of now it doesn't seem likely at all.

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

It is when the PSP retails for £50 and has an already extensive library build up etc, whereas the Vita costs around £200(incl the compulsory memory card). The kids mum kept calling it PSP too, I was like, BITCH ITS VITA.. In my head obviously.

Also in UK my local CEX and Gamestation said they werent accepting any Vita trade ins as they already had too much stock to shift ;_;
