Well, it's not horrific. It's just not good, or average. It's pretty slow selling and is trending well below the 'horribly slow selling' 3DS pre-price cut. But it all comes down to perspective.
If you expected it to fail, you'll be happy. If you expected it to do alright, you'd be alright. And if you expected it to do well, or match 3DS/DS/PSP sales, you'd be unhappy.
Obviously Sony expected it to fail, hence they're happy
