Forums - Gaming - Wii U release = Start of new Gen? Agree or Disagree.

My personal take on a new generation is that it starts when the second home console of the new generation releases because that's the beginning of competition in the main theatre of the industry.

And yes, I expect 360 to take second place for the current gen.

1- Yes
2- it depends... But I see them both ending with very very close numbers.

1. Yes, it is a next gen console. It doesn't even matter how powerful it is. A generation is determined by the time frame.

2. If it is in second when the Wii U launches, than I think yes. It will have lock solid case if it is still in second when the next Xbox launches.

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

1. Yes.

2. Who cares? There is no need to get smug at achieving second place when they have practically sold the same. They can pat themselves in the back as equals if they really want to.

yes and probably yes on the second question.

Around the Network

1. Yes, I do believe that the WiiU will give the start of the new gen of consoles.
2. Yes, sales wise, the 360 will finish second.

Yes. Why wouldn't it be? It's a next-gen console, designed to play next-gen games.

However, doesn't mean the previous gen ends. I expect the PS3 to get past the 360 in the end, and when all is said and done, I expect to see something like this:

Wii- 105-110mil
PS3- 80-85mil
360-77-83mil

Roughly...I expect a sharp decrease in PS360 sales soon, especially when WiiU launches

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

7.5gen
Sony dictates a generation life cycle. PS3 can still take second place by end of 2013, early 2014

Of course not. The Wii U might not even be this generation according to some of the rumors.

Nintendo with 2 homeconsoles in the same generation?

Wii vs Wii U

But, will it cath up the PS2?

Yes, but the games won't look as good as the original Halo.

And it should also be noted that the sales of the 360 are boosted by its failure rate, I know a few people that are on their third and fourth consoles.

Thats the worst excuse i have ever heard. i wont even explain why.

That has to be attributed to the 360s sales by some percentage. It was over the 40% mark and not every one had the pleasure of an extended warranty past the three years of life. If you bought a 360 in 2005 and it red ringed in 2009, you were essentially screwed. Microsoft only increased the warranty by two years past the initial year.
