Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: Microsoft to announce "Xbox Lite" for $100 in late 2013.

That's actually pretty damn smart on MS part. It would almost be a like a Google TV device, but can play games. It would run apps, play arcade games, along with Kinect compatibility and be at a cheap price =win.

i think they are doing this to ensure that 360 sales will keep up with ps3's sales when the next generation starts so ps3 doesnt pass the 360 in sales ltd

You're right, they so give a shit about that.

The only ones who actually care about the ltd sales anymore are the fanboys and believers(Who have been believing since 2006). Although it's nice to see the sales, the novelty has worn off now, seeing as this gen is 7 years in now.

then why else would they do it?

Microsoft said that they want the 360 to sell more hardware than PS3 when its all said and done..

Money, Microsoft is a corporation, having a product that is a smaller price point and appeals to a wide audience will be a sure source of income  and continue the products longivity, after all, having old tech that is cheap to manufacture selling at still a reasonable price with profit, means profit. Profit means more money, it's simple. Every company would do that, I like how you jumped to that conclusion though, you seem to live on Mars or something.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

No disc drive. Very small console with a 1TB HDD.

It's gonna help MS decide if the market is ready for a DD only console. Wouldn't be surprised to see it at this E3.

lol well somebody seems to be defensive

yea they want profit but they also want to sell more than ps3 and nothing you say will change that..

if they release an xbox lite then MS wont have to drop the price of the 4gb arcade system AGAIN

"longevity" is the key ;)

and no i live on Venus =P

One of the things Microsoft is trying to push is xbox live revenue through non gaming hardware (windows phone, win 8 etc). I don't know about an xbox lite per se, but I can see something cheap akin to a hd set top box where it would use ARM and be cheap and available to the masses.

I read an article about this the other day and in that article it was said that this new Xbox would be more for the simple game, media apps and kinect.
Although it sounds nice, who would reall develop for Lite and if that happened how would they conceal Lite and the 720?

I am not defensive, it's just mind boggling when people draw stupid conclusions that have been long buried and forgotten out of thin air. I think if MS really wanted to sell more than PS3, the price would have been dropped by now, after all 360 has been profitting for more than few years now, that leaves room to drop the price in an attempt to increase sales, rather than sit on the same price point and try to maximize profits.

That's how I usually type, people always seem to think it's aggressive, but I guess that's how it appears to those who seem to draw stupid conclusion out of thin air. This whole LTD sales battle has been fun, probably about 3 years ago, now it's just boring, "2009/2010/2011 will be the year the PS3 outsells 360 ltd", its been so long, barely anyone gives a damn anymore tbh.

360 has not seen a price drop yet because Kinect rose 360 sales higher than what a price drop would have done

the Kinect also rises its sales high enough in the holidays to keep ps3 at bay with it catching up

i said you seemed defensive because you said that i live on mars or something

a 360 lite at $100 with Kinect in the holidays would probably be enormous(keeping its sales tremendously high) and they would still have the arcade system at $200 making more profit

i dont care about your little ltd battles you had in the past

i only talk about how the companys feel, i dont care about how YOU feel about it

microsoft wants to sell more hardware than ps3 and thats that..

Dont see any issue with this MS fans will eat these up no matter what they offer and will be a bridge to the nextbox.

I agree, of course they want to sell more than their competition. Heck they even stated so happily in their CES keynote how they outdid all of their competition last year in terms of sale, if they didn't care why would they make such a big deal out of it? Plus this seems like it'll probably be very akin to arcade, its made for soft gaming and apps, so I'll probably have a small hard drive as well. Plus it will keep the xbox on its 10 year life cycle that they envisioned with profits rolling on, so its pretty good of a plan if its true imo.

Oh and how is it on Venus? I hear you have to deal with them sulphuric acid clouds and lots of carbon dioxide. Life must be pretty tough with that much global warming ;)
