Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: Microsoft to announce "Xbox Lite" for $100 in late 2013.

I am not saying MS won't release this lite console but I am willing to bet it won't happen.

If it was late 2012 then yeah, maybe, but late 2013?? You would be better off getting a fully fledged x360 that would probably cost the same by then. I mean that's like almost two years away.

I believe late 2013 is the x720 and going forward... not looking backwards.

ARM based? isnt this like a completely different architecture? How the fuck would 360 Games supposed to work on this?

But a "Lite" 360 would be a great Idea, and i think it would really help MS to increase momentum.

Hmm maybe not Xbox Lite, but Kinect-in-a-box. A machine that's bacially an enlarged Kinect unit with the main guts of a what's needed to run Xbox360 games?

Unless I missed it (apologises if I have) there is no mention of it being x360 compatible.

As I pointed out earlier I don't see the point of releasing a x360 lite system so late in it's life.

It is like an Apple TV box that plays downloaded Arcade type kinnect games.

I am GUESSING this is like a totally different system that will only play ARM architecture games.

If it's essentially a new platform designed to compete with Apple TV or Roku, then even at $99, I'm not sure what the point of it would be as a new "lite" gaming platform. Maybe if it retained XBLA game compatibility, but again, those apps were coded for PPC architecture which means a lack of hardware compatibility.

No 360 software compatibility whatsoever means non-related new device/platform.

While that doesn't rule out a set top box controlled by "Kinect compatible with MS TV" games, I'm not sure exactly why this would mean anything to current Xbox owners who would presumably just want MS TV functionality added to their 360 before buying another $99 box to sit next to their Xbox, tethered or not.

Sounds like more info is needed before any legitimate guesses can really be made here.

Pretty much this.

There's a good chance the current exsisting X360 4GB models will be $100 as a standard late 2013 while probably still being profitable, so there's no need to suddenly introduce a "Xbox Lite".

As for the "real" X720/Next-Box" running on Windows 9, it's pretty unlikely, this would mean it would launch Q3-Q4 2014 at it's earliest as it takes at least 2 years to produce a new Windows OS version.

I'm calling extreme bogus on this one.

Windows 9 already exists.

You're not usually one to make nonsensical one-liners without trying to back them up with actual fact or source material, so this is slightly dissapointing.

Just because Microsoft may already be thinking about and developing what comes after Windows 8 does not mean that Windows 9 exists.

Also, I find the fact that so many here believe that Windows 9 devices could launch less than a year after Windows 8 releases slightly odd.

Not a bad idea. I could dig me a $100 360.

Especially since I won't be buying the next round of consoles until they are $299 or less.

Wouldn't an ARM architecture be fairly different? Would this easily support current games? Sound's like a doubtful rumour to me unless I'm missing something technically.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I would be interested ... if there was no loss in functionality.

However, I feel the DL only machine about which some people are speculating is probably DOA.

really stupid, the 360 was $100 at gamestop a year or 2 ago around xmas, it didn't have a HDD though but a 20gb HDD is enough for casual users and those should be very cheap
unless the xbox lite comes with a bigger HDD and kinect it will be completely pointless.
