Umm no, you have no idea how software works... This is easily done through emulation. Sony will NOT make PS4 non backwards compatible. |
Ugggh, sure buddy. Sure.

It would be so awesome if Sony went all AMD with the PS4, not just on the GPU which is already confirmed, but on the CPU too. AMD are the good guys, they need support from gamers and gaming companies.

Can be done, yes, but I doubt 4 BD cores at say 3GHz are strong enough to emulate the Cell at a reasonable speed.

It can have 4gb including the videocard memory in an X86 system. And it would surprise me if they put that much in it.
All these rumors of what the PS4 is or isn't just illustrates my point that all new consoles will be shown in some form at this E3 and will all launch by end of 2013.

More than likely an A8 Llano chip with paired Radeon HD 6000 series graphics and 2GB RAM. At most.
How likely is that this thing would be backwards compatible?
Some people say it's possible, but my (not well informed, I'm not tech savvy) instincts tell me that emulating the PS3 with a single generation's leap would be extremely hard. Even harder than for PS3 to run PS2 games through emulation probably.

Since it's coming out 2013 at the earliest I would say Trinity-based, given working Trinity samples were being demoed Q4 last year. Four cores and a GPU in 65W is not unreasonable for a console.

I am certain that emulating the PS3 next generation will be impossible, unless it carries over the same components or very similar components, which according to this article, it will not. We can't even emulate the Xbox 360 on PC's yet, and if professional developers who make games with multi-million dollar budgets struggle to develop games for the system itself even to this day, then how the hell are we expected to emulate it next generation? I doubt CELL will be emulation the generation after either.
It's a shame, but I think the PS3 will continue to sell well into next gen and people won't be bothered by it. It may hurt SONY in the short run, but in the long run, it will stop them from bleeding money.

Great news if true.
A developer friendly-console have to be is like a PC but a joystick instead of the mouse/keyboard.
