Damn! That's an awesome trailer! |
OH MY GOD!! I NEEED to play this game!
That trailer made me think of 2 things. Firstly, they really should make a Mass Effect movie and secondly I can't wait until graphics look that good in games!

The second half of the single-player demo is actually poorly constructed but it highlights a nice aspect of the game even in how it obfuscates one of the mechanics. A person playing any class but Soldier will notice that in the latter part of the demo, your power cooldowns are stupidly high. Based on this, one might assume that Bioware wants you to play it like a shooter! But this is not so. The hting is that Shepard now has a weight capacity, which is affected by the number and type of guns being carried (also possibly armor type). If you go over the weight capacity, your power cooldown starts skyrocketing. The latter half of the demo has your cooldowns agonizingly slow because the rat bastards designing the demo gave you one of every weapon type except a sniper rifle. I'm running around in multiplayer carrying nothing but a shotgun, and I've shaved 45% off my cooldown time based on my weight bonus alone. What this does is it creates a dynamic where you have to choose between variety of weapon (within your weight range) versus fast power cooldowns. It kind of highlights the "either or" stat change mechanic that's further highlighted by the skills you choose between. There's going to be a massive number of synergistic, completely viable, and unique stat/skill combinations in this game. That's just, that's just stupidly exciting. I am so excited. I also like how yoru allies are now better at using cover and surviving aggro. Got the Atlas to go after Garrus and Liara, which let me flank it and shove my shotgun right up its ass. |
After hearing this it makes me glad, i am gonna focus on powers more than weapons on classes like Vanguard and Infiltrator if this is possible. My Vanguard doesn't need more weapons than a shotty, if charge cooldown was cut in half.
Anyone else playing on PC and using Origin?

I hope they add (or the full game already has) different kinds of packs - for example, an adept pack, an infiltrator pack, a soldier pack, and so on. Come to think of it, most things related to weaponry are useless for an Adept because no self-respecting Adept carries more than one weapon. |
There will be more packs and there will be more equipment to get, according to the developers.
And you can be an Adept and still carry an SMG and a Heavy Pistol, and if they're relatively light you still get something like +140% to recharge as a bonus. Believe me, the extra firepower can be worth it, even as an Adept. Even Asari Adepts are goign to want something to shoot those damn Phantoms with after hitting them with Stasis.

I'm a Human adept, which means taking down shields is a bit of a pain, but then SMGs are just awful at any kind of range, so I stick with an assault rifle for +140% recharge speed. Equipping an SMG brings it down to 94% or something. Pistols are kind of worthless, as they were in ME2.

HhhhhrrrrrAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
NO NO NO NO NO NO
No.
Pistols are not worthless, never. The maount of damage you can do in terms of full clip size when factoring in their damage bonuses against armor is enormous, and they're still maybe the most clip-efficient damage dealing weapons in the entire game. The Phalanx, the Carnifex, any of them is better than none of them. You need them for the sake of being able to whittle down armored enemies while you use Warp on Turrets, you need them for their close-quarters damage multipliers, you need them for those emergencies where a Phantom is in your face and doesn't give a shit that you have time to pull off one Warp before she gives you a free bladed colonoscopy.
SMGs are more efficient at taking down shields and Barriers than ARs are, and HPs are much more effective at taking down armor; combine the pistol's damage modifiers with Warp's armor-weakening ability and you have the ability to rip through an Atlas like tissue paper on Bronze.
Take a Predator and a Tempest (or whatever other SMG you prefer); the two combined will be about as heavy a an M-8 Avenger by itself, and you'll be much more efficient in terms of damage per second and in terms of damage per thermal clip, which can be the difference between life and death on any difficulty above Crying Babies.

I have awful memories of the Carnifex that involve running out of ammo after taking down three enemies.
I would go for your SMG and Heavy Pistol idea, but the thought of losing a weapon that can easily hit enemies outside of targeting range, and takes down fucking everything is rather an unpleasant one. From the Collector Ship onwards in Mass Effect 2, I pretty much used nothing other than the assault rifle except for heavy weapons.
Granted, the co-op is considerably harder than Mass Effect 2. What would you think of going with the M8 Avenger and just one of the other two? Which one should it be?
The game is crap from what I saw in the demo. The graphics are like a ps1 game!

My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)
Wii U will sell under 7m in 2013 - I was right

You are playing an Adept. The Avenger and one of the other two would weigh you down too much. Well, not too much, but you'd have less than 100% recharge bonuses for sure unless you have like an Avenger X or something.
If you find yourself utterly unable to use SMGs or Pistols, take the Pistol anyway. If you can unlock the Carnifex, shut up and take that by itself. In ME2 it was weaker than the Phalanx; in this one it's more like a handcannon, with damage more comparable to a shotgun at any range. It is a nightmare weapon, and everyone should be in awe of it.
But again: you're an Adept. Your guns are there to strip defenses that you can't get rid of with your powers, or to support your powers during recharge. Pistols will be most effective for that. If you're using your AR more than you're using Singularity or Warp then you need to be playing another class, like Soldier or Infiltrator.
Is this game worth playing if you've not played 1 or 2?
