In terms of popularity, it struck it's height only after FFVII and it has never since reached that popularity level, and that was only on the west. On Japan there isn't a single FF that holds a candle in terms of popularity (and quality) to the Dragon Quest games. 

And that's not talking about the Pokemon games, which are in a whole different galaxy xD.


I meant top dog in graphics, presentation, budget and production values among JRPGs. Dragon Quest and FF we can say its a tie in sales worlwide, Pokemon like you said  is in another level and a good example that JRPGs don't need the shiniest tech to be great.

I'd be fine with this.

Lush sprite graphics, really focused game design, soundtracks that focus on composition and melody rather than orchestration and novelty. Characters who are about the writing, rather than their appearances.

Yeah. Yeah! I think this would work fine!

I hope they read the op because by doing so they would probably go back to what I loved about FF: Great characters, nice worlds & overall amazing stories (ffiv & ffvi). I have great hopes with Bravery default.

I agree with everything in OP and in general with the push towards better content (music, characters, story) rather than a stubborn focus on photorealism. A decent job at visuals would do the trick, nothing too fancy is needed. Let's get back to the greatness of FFs 1,3,4,6,7,8,9, and X. Please.

They should definately do some spin offs for handhelds, I really like spinoffs on handhelds, like god of war, metal gear, ratchet and clank, daxter, even though they could actually be considered main games cuz they are awesome

FF is a franchise big enough to be on multiple platforms with all their spinoffs, home or handheld it doesnt matter. But I do agree that I would love a main ff game on a handheld. It seems now that SE is focusing on making FF games eye candy with cute little girly techno music. I hate that. 1 of the best if not the best ff game was ff6, and that thing could probably run on a DS, so FF doesnt need crazy graphics with super huge and detailed world, it needs a great immersive story, interesting characters and good game play. My point is that a main FF game shouldnt need to be on a home console, FF15 could be one of the best FF game ever w/o having super high tech ps4 graphics and succeed on a 3ds/vita. The problem is that it seems SE will never do that so all we are ever going to see on handhelds are spinoffs and remasters, and these are never as interesting :(

Also, imagine what could SE do with FF and street passes for 3ds... :D
