Short term spike means they sell a shit ton of copies before a game hits the bargain bin. Right?

Anyhow, my point is if you wanna reach core gamers in the west its difficult to do on hand held platforms.

PSP was successful at moving core software for a couple years but people lost interest. DS was never good at moving core software period.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for another round of your favorite game show!

@bold. In the west, right? If yes, then yeah, I'd say you're right. It seems 3DS will be different but true it's still a little early. But I'm almost certain RE:R will not dissappoint so as to offset the trend.

EDIT: Non-Nintendo 1st party of course. But even then I don't remember core Nintendo games which sold well on the DS tbh.

Core is the opposite of casual. ie, games that dedicated gamers will pick-up, exclusively (i.e. casuals will generally not buy).

You don't explain lingo with lingo! You have to use plain and unambiguous language to win this game, happydolphin!

Your score is sitting at $0. Mr Puggsly, can you top that?

lol :)

Casuals = gamers who do not play games seriously or competitively. Gamers who generally buy software of mass appeal and high entertainment value, or utility/variety applications.

Ho-ho-ho-holy shit! Just for the sake of clarification: so software that has mass appeal and high entertainment value are casual games?

:D The percentage of core who also buy those games are totally outnumbered by the casual audience (those who play games less seriously as a hobby).

I like your extravagant humour though XD

EDIT: This post was brought to you by the number 702. (Missed # 700...)

So what you're saying is that core games are necessarily games with limited appeal because they require a higher investment of time, energy, and skill than games in other genres. Skyrim, CoD, Mario, Gran Turismo, FIFA, Halo, all of those games are "casual" because they're so accessible and popular. Games like Vanquish, Bayonetta, Strategy RPGs, and whatnot are core.

That's definitely a definition, but in the context of my conversation with Mr Puggsly it's problematic because it means NO CONSOLE CAN MOVE CORE TITLES.

There are core games that start reaching out to the less die-hard players. In those cases, it's really hard to define what those games are. I've limited myself from calling CoD or Halo core games exactly due to this reason. They are somewhere in the middle. A core game would be say God of War. Sales of 3Mil is reasonable. Sales of .5mil is not. Just my shitty POV your questions are valid Khuutra-baby. ~.-

My point is that Mr Puggsly (and many others) use phrases like "core games" to be pedantic and arbitrarily exclude different value sets by framing them as being less legitimate when compared to others. This doesn't help the discourse. It is the product of people who would prefer to talk down to each other rather than say anything meaningful.
