Forums - Nintendo - Are Nintendo gamers enlightened?

This is a very baseless assumption, purely based on my own analysis, so please don't take offense from this topic, but I thought that it could be an interesting discussion point.

Sometimes I observe discussions on this forum and look at people's actions and other's responses to these. I noticed that these get particularly interesting regarding 3rd party games - I'm talking about all the super-popular ones this generation, such as CoD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed and Batman among a few others. Generally, I've noticed that the owners of HD consoles are much more likely to take an interest in these games - whether that be positive or negative - whereas the Nintendo console owners tend to stay on the sidelines.

"Well Radishhead" you say, "that's pretty obvious - the Wii doesn't have proper versions of these games, so of course Nintendo gamers aren't going to care about them!"

You have a point, my friends - but I argue that it's more complex than that - I believe that after years of neglect, the Nintendo fanbase has adapted to effectively phase out all caring for these otherwise blockbuster titles. I'm suggesting that even if a Nintendo console, for example the WiiU, was to get a "true" version of the aforementioned titles, then they wouldn't be purchased by the Nintendo fans. If this is true, then it means that the 3rd parties are right about their suspicions that their games don't sell on Nintendo consoles... but the irony is that it would be them that caused this effect in the first place through their negligence.

So, I ask you this question. Let's use CoD, since it's probably the most popular of these franchises - if a mainline CoD game was to appear on the WiiU, would you buy it? If not, is it because you've grown to not care about the "blockbuster" franchises anymore?

I'd argue it runs even deeper than that and that the Nintendo fanbase doesn't care about games at all.

To answer the bolded: No I won't. However that will be due to the fact that I don't really like the FPS genre. If the WiiU gets FFXV, I'll get it on WiiU instead of PS3 most likely. Also I'm getting DQX on the WiiU as well (surely that would be a better example to use in the op as we know the WiiU is getting a version of it).

Hell no. Battlefield for LIFE.

I'm going to say yes based on the fact that Nintendo has been around the longest and true fans of Nintendo who've been around from or near the beginning have some age on them which hopefully means their more mature...Nintendo hasn't gone "shooter-centric" like the other two so hopefully when the Wii-U comes out with it's supposed "Nintendo Network" we won't have screaming 12-year olds of grown up douche-bags.

I generally prefer Nintendo consoles because of the style of the games I can play on those machines. And I don't care of CoD, no way I'd buy a copy on a console, not only Nintendo.

Don't most Nintendo gamers have at least one HD console/PC for third party game anyways?

Well, maybe, not really sure. But, I'm going with the same position as MrT-Tar, I'd pick FF XV. ....well if it is a good game.

I don't even like FPSs :(

Nintendo games are allegedly marketed towards kids but Nintendo has been around since many of us began gaming. We grew up wit Nintendo. Now, a lot of people that were never into gaming became fans of the hobby during the PS1 era and even more during the PS2 era. For a lot of gamers, the Playstation style of gaming is all they've ever known.  They embrace a different type of game.  Their priorities are different.  Sony's console offered a lot of gaming experiences that we had never seen before. It offered some more "mature" games.

Nintendo gamers are no strangers to mature titles. From the Nes and Super Nes days, there was plenty of "adult themed" titles to be found on a Nintendo console. It was during the 5th gen that Nintendo developed its kiddie image. The Playstation was the more adult choice for gamers and developers alike. Those that grew up with Nintendo stayed with Nintendo for their focus on gameplay, nostalgia, and innovation rather than graphics, violence, and cinematic presentation.

During the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era (6th gen), despite the fact that there was a ton of mature content on the Gamecube, it was impossible for Nintendo to shake its image because now, there were TWO adult themed consoles on the market. The launch of the Wii didn't help things, nor does Nintendo's lack of motivation when it comes to things like online interactivity.

To end this rant, I'll say this: The current Nintendo gamer enjoys Nintendo games. A person that didn't grow up with Nintendo or has a different idea about what makes a good game (ie: Aldro) isn't going to be excited for a Nintendo console or a Nintendo version of a game. A person that grew up with the "Nintendo Style" of gaming isn't going to be frothing at the mouth for a graphically amazing, story heavy game--at least not as much as the gamer that grew up with another platform. So, no. Even if the best version of a game like Assassin's Creed or were available on a Nintendo platform, it will probably be the worst selling one. Games that have tremendous replay value (the kinds of games that you NEVER trade in), games that offer great social experiences, games that offer innovation, and games that are really unique are the games that Nintendo gamers go gaga over.

Just my take on things.
