Nintendo games are allegedly marketed towards kids but Nintendo has been around since many of us began gaming. We grew up wit Nintendo. Now, a lot of people that were never into gaming became fans of the hobby during the PS1 era and even more during the PS2 era. For a lot of gamers, the Playstation style of gaming is all they've ever known. They embrace a different type of game. Their priorities are different. Sony's console offered a lot of gaming experiences that we had never seen before. It offered some more "mature" games.
Nintendo gamers are no strangers to mature titles. From the Nes and Super Nes days, there was plenty of "adult themed" titles to be found on a Nintendo console. It was during the 5th gen that Nintendo developed its kiddie image. The Playstation was the more adult choice for gamers and developers alike. Those that grew up with Nintendo stayed with Nintendo for their focus on gameplay, nostalgia, and innovation rather than graphics, violence, and cinematic presentation.
During the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era (6th gen), despite the fact that there was a ton of mature content on the Gamecube, it was impossible for Nintendo to shake its image because now, there were TWO adult themed consoles on the market. The launch of the Wii didn't help things, nor does Nintendo's lack of motivation when it comes to things like online interactivity.
To end this rant, I'll say this: The current Nintendo gamer enjoys Nintendo games. A person that didn't grow up with Nintendo or has a different idea about what makes a good game (ie: Aldro) isn't going to be excited for a Nintendo console or a Nintendo version of a game. A person that grew up with the "Nintendo Style" of gaming isn't going to be frothing at the mouth for a graphically amazing, story heavy game--at least not as much as the gamer that grew up with another platform. So, no. Even if the best version of a game like Assassin's Creed or were available on a Nintendo platform, it will probably be the worst selling one. Games that have tremendous replay value (the kinds of games that you NEVER trade in), games that offer great social experiences, games that offer innovation, and games that are really unique are the games that Nintendo gamers go gaga over.
Just my take on things.
