Honestly, my opinion on this subject can't be clearer:

I wont buy a console that doesnt allow me to play used games.
I wont buy a console who does not have a physical medium.

The only way i would is if the electronic distribution cuts on the average retail price. If i cant resell my games they arent worth as much as they would if i could, thus im not willing to pay as much for them.

Now as for why companies like gamestop can sell the same game 3 times is very simple. They are buying the copy 3 times. The game publishers and developers just get ratty about this cause they arent getting a share aswell. Well, but last time i checked they arent re-buying their share from me when i sell my copy to the game store, so why would they be entitled to anything else besides what i already pay'ed them? They got no part on the second business. If they want in, then they have to go in on the buying part.

Man, I could write a screenplay of how ridiculous this entire argument seems...

Publisher: I want a cut of the second, third, and fourth sale, which this retailer also paid for a second, third, and fourth time can we work something out???

Retailer: Great news, you can buy shares of our publicly traded company and earn more profits when we earn more profits off this second hand market, this is a great deal for both of us!

Publisher: Wait, what? I just wanted even MORE money for nothing in exchange!

Retailer: Will the developers get paid more if we cut you in on our profits for ABSOLUTELY nothing in exchange???

Publisher: Nope, we already paid them for their time and fired them all!

Fanboys: Aww poor publishers. :'(  These second hand markets are the most vile entities in the universe; Publisher's propaganda has shown us the light! O.O

A bit dramatic but, entertaining.  :P

The gaming industry is falling into the same trap as the music industry.

They do not have any interest in the selling of the games (websites, stores and such).

I hope it doesn't become like that! D":

Hopefully Apple is not the saviour (like they are in the music industry).....I really do not want to end up supporting a company that I am not really fond of.

Anyone consumer who is FOR stopping used game sales, is evil and/or insane.

Lots of games I never would have played if it werent for used games, just because when I got around to them the game (and sometimes the console) was so old it wasn't available new anymore. Do we really want to deny future players the chance to play the classics of today?

On the other hand, it seems to be completely OK for the publishers to sell the same game 4 or 5 times to the same consumer.

I have now bought Super Mario Bros. on NES, SNES (Mario All-Stars), Gameboy, GBA, Wii Virtual Console and 3DS (tho got it as ambassador on 3DS, so technically "free").

There will be even more of this if you stop used game sales. They have partly stopped it already, it's not like you can transfer a downloaded purchase to a friend later. Physical media is very important to consumer rights, once you buy something digitally, you have almost no rights.

On the Wii, the games are locked to the console. The EULA actually says that if you sell your Wii, you have to format it and remove all the downloaded content first! None of these companies give a fuck about their customers, so you can't give them an inch.

yeah I refuse to buy digital media as I have no control over it.

I would then rather just download it second hand and be able to do anything with it.

Make it into a DVD, or watch on a TV with my computer or USB.

I support used game sales, although I rarely buy used games from gamestop because it's only a 5$ difference...On the other hand, I think Online Passses are utterly stupid...what's next? A monthly subscription fee to play a FPS online?

Well that is the route it is going in.  Look at steam, origin, and other digital distribution sites.  It is the majority of PC sales. I for one  have no attachments with my physical copy when it is much easier to just click on whatever game I want.

Whoops! I said 'yes' because I read the question as 'do you disagree with...' My bad. Please don't hurt me D:

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I agree entirely with trying to stop retailers from selling used games. I think consumers should be able to sell any game they bought any time they want. But when your retailers sell your game used for slightly cheaper and your sales get screwed that simply isn't fair.

If I were a big publisher I would begin talking to other publishers about an alliance. If a retailer sells my games used then I drop support for that retailer. Now this won't work if a single publisher does this alone. But say EA, Ubisoft, Activision, THQ all joined one another. They demand GameStop stop selling used copies of their games or all four companies pull their products. Well I am guessing even the mighty GameStop would bow to that kind of pressure.
