Played both chapters and thought the game was pretty neat. I wont spend $60, but I'll definitely give it a rental or wait till it's cheaper.

it's strange, I want to rent it. I trust you since you like Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, and DmC more than said games. But still, I don't really trust you. :-*

You are wise not to trust me.   But try the demo, though.  Let the game speak for itself.  If you don't like it, that's cool.  If you do like it, that's even better.  I don't have an agenda, here.  I just tried the game (again, looking for the hot chick from page 21 of Game Informer magazine) and came away shocked with how much I enjoyed the game.  I'm also a huge supporter of new IP's and games that aren't FPS's.  Try it out if you like any of the things mentioned in the thread title.

trailer looks low budget.

gonna check out some gameplay vids

Edit: Just checked out some gameplay, looks cheesy as hell. I wouldnt play this even if someone payed me to

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I felt that the quicktime events were lenient. As someone who hates quicktime events, It made them tolerable or at the very least didn't waste my time. I really liked the sense of power and the scale of the battlegrounds in this game. SPOILERS ahead: Fighting on the moon then being stabbed while a giant sword is going through the planet was mind-blowing. I could do without all the cutscenes. the first chapter felt like 75% cutscenes and 25% actual gameplay. Also the writing is so awful, it's hilarious.

From a content standpoint, it felt like a game about getting to Burst as soon as possbile than winning.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Lesson Learned From This Thread: Don't ever cross D21Lewis. Ever.

I pity the fool who makes D21Lewis bring the paaaain!

Asura´s Wrath A.K.A: "Asura´s Shooter: With 75% QTE, and 15% actual close combat" HELL YEAH!!!!

Turning sarcasm mode off.

The game will be rated like crap.

I found the Asura's Wrath demo to be offensively bad.

Horrible voice acting and the worst writing I've ever heard in a game this generation, characters just shout pure nonsense. The musical score seriously gave me a headache. The graphics and art-style were ugly and uninspired. The gameplay, aside from the excessive and poorly designed QTE's, was dreadful and the shooting was a useless gameplay mechanic. The story seems completely aimless, why did the Gods randomly kill your wife and kidnap you're daughter? The demo should have at least gave an explanation as to why the Gods did what they did, although I'm assuming that there isn't a reason, it just lacks any depth, purpose or structure. I know that story isn't important for this genre but it should at least make sense for goodness sake.

I know the lead developers/producers are fans of God of War (they said so in an interview I read) but I think it's an insult to God of War that this game is being compared to it. I think it's much more comparable to Bayonetta which whilst being too over the top and sometimes cringe-worthy, was actually a fairly enjoyable experience, but Asura's Wrath as a game is comparable to the film 'Titanic 2' in terms of a bad something can be. Sorry if my opinion somehow offends anyone, I just thought Asura's Wrath was absolutely terrible, which is a shame because I was expecting a great God of War rip-off like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow or at least a decent attempt like Dante's Inferno.

Okay.  I get it.  You like God of War.  Sheesh!

*edit*

You know what?  Not sheesh!  Did you play the God of War III demo on the PSN?  Did it give you even the slightest idea of what was going on?  No.  It was a fucking demo.  It gave you a taste of how the game played.  I know because thanks to that shitty ass demo, I didn't play God of War 3 until a year after it came out.  You seem to think that God of War is Shakespeare or something.  It's not.  It's over dramatic fan fiction with a charisma free main character.  The gameplay is nothing special, either.  Games like Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry shit all over Kratos and his cut scene filled, slow paced combat.  The biggest thing God of War has going for it i its graphics.  Graphics and sex scenes.  Were it not for those two things (and the fact that it's made by Sony), nobody would have given two squirts of piss about that game.

I thought God of War 2 and 3 were pretty good, personally.  Still, nothing I said was false.

Oh.  Here's the plot (according to Wikipedia):

Plot

Asura was once a revered general of the Gods who defeated an enemy known as the Gohma. Returning from the war, Asura was summoned to the Emperor's throne. But to his horror, Asura finds the Emperor has been murdered and he has been accused of the crime. After escaping imperial forces, Asura rushes home to protect his family only to find his beloved wife Durga dead and his daughter Mithra kidnapped. In his rage, Asura pursues his former allies who have Mithra contained in a glass capsule. As Asura charges to save his child, Asura is repulsed by the God Deus, who reveals himself to be the Emperor's murderer so he can bring about what he calls "The Great Rebirth". Weakened by Deus' attacks, Asura is dropped over the edge of the platform and falls to Earth while swearing to exact his vengeance.

Twelve millenia later, Asura is awakened from hibernation by the prayers of a young girl in the mountains. After saving the girl from a pack of ape-like creatures, Asura ventures through the world battling the forces of the Gods as he fights to save Mithra from Deus and the Seven Deities, his former allies who now rule Heaven and have been using Mithra's powers to amplify their own. Along his journey, Asura will combat Heaven's soldiers, ferocious wild life, giant battleships, and other powerful foes. It is by that time as Asura's former friend Yasha begins to see the injustice in Deus's ways and attempts to stop the Seven Deities' cause.

Lets try to keep things civil boys :D

I dislike the attitude of most God of War fans. God of War might be amazing, but its not everyones cup of tea... at all... theres no point forcing God of War down everyones throats. And saying that every hack 'n slash game ever made is a god of war rip-off is laughable. The new Castlevania and God of War  are NOTHING alike. Also "assuming" that  something in the story has no reason behind it based on a demo has got to be one of the most idiotic assumptions ever. Try to step out of your "OMFG God of War is tehh bessst KRatOS FfTWWWW !!!" attitude and play games for what they are without expecting yet another God of War.

And to d21lewis, some of those comments are really harsh. God of War brought the genre to the mainstream. Anyone who isn't all that skilled at video games can mash their way through it, and anyone who trys to string more hits in succession with combos can play that way (and be rewarded for it too). So it might be slow paced the way its played by some, but if you rush enemies down and mix things up once in a while and go for those air combos, the gameplay can be really enjoyable. I know its not just me who thinks the same way either. From a pure gameplay standpoint, God of War may be inferior to the more technical action games you mentioned, but that doesn't necessarily mean the gameplay on offer is bad. Ofcourse if you expect Ninja Gaiden from God of War, you'll be seriously underwhelmed. Also, the boss fights in God of War deserve some recognition in my opinion. The story isn't shakespeare, obviously, but its definitely better than the genres rest by far. I don't know, maybe its the mythological Greek setting my fondness of Greek mythology thats making me feel that way.

Bottom line is I think we should focus more on Asura's Wrath over here than God of War. That'd be all :)

Just an observation but most of the people that don't like the game appear to be huge fans of God of War or Sony. I guess the awesomeness of that PS3 and God of War make people raise their standards. Not to turn this into a console war (I'm leaving the thread, anyway) but does this mean that 360 gamers are more open minded? I don't know.

Anyway, like I said, I'll be grabbing this game the day it comes out. It's my cup of tea. Hope it does well in reviews and sales. I'm glad some of you were willing to give it a shot. Some of you liked it. Some of you didn't. That's cool. Just happy to see how many people are willing to give a new game a shot (and not just settle for Sequel Game IV: Return of the Revenge). See ya in February!
