Forums - Microsoft - Kitase: Xbox market “important for us”; can remake PS-era Final Fantasy games for the Xbox 360

Who cares about all this crap, where is FFXVIII online already? Ought to be announced by now at least, this is worrying.

I don't like remakes but since square seems incapable of actually producing games nowadays instead of just announcing them this is the next best things they can do.

lol @ the guys thinking this confirms a remake for 360.

He's just saying that they see the 360 as a valuable market, and if a remake were to ever happen, it'd probably happen for 360 too. I don't think the likeliness of a remake has changed whatsoever.

Though at this point, if a remake were to happen, I think it'd be for Vita and would come out after ps4/720.

I think this is another case of Square Enix trying to lick the Western audiences asses and therefore trying to lick the 360's ass too.

...Like when they said Halo inspired Final Fantasy XIII.

Some people at Square Enix really need to be fired.

All except FF7 and FFX, which Sony would bid till they were out of business for.

I guess they really want a bigger piece of the western pie.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Carl, are you prepared to watch the rolling credits for the PS1 FF games and let me know exactly who the copyright of the game belongs to? That would be near the end of them. I'm not prepared to, but here:

If the copyright of the programming for the games belongs to Sony in any way, that's why. But if the scenario, characters, and content belong to Square, then they're free to build it from scratch in whatever engine they want and then publish it anywhere, just like Konami put Metal Gear Solid on the Gamecube.

If the programming belongs to Square-Enix too, then it's because Square are too lazy to scrounge up a functioning PS1 emulator for the 360.

Right, I can finally reply. I tried earlier but picked a bad time, VGChartz moved server...

Anyway. I found the credits for 7 on YouTube but couldn't be bothered to watch them all the way through. I skipped bit by bit and didn't see anything about Copyright so... I have no idea.

If Square/Squeenix own(ed) the copyright, then wouldn't Sony's publishing have something to do with the game being on other platforms? We could use Mass Effect this generation as an example. The original was published by Microsoft, the 2nd wasn't... The original simply wasn't allowed on the PS3 because of this.

Another thing I'm not sure on - Rare games on the N64 that are on the 360. I'll use Banjo Kazooie as my example here. Rare developed it, Nintendo published it... Yet it's on the 360. How?

When you've answered that, can you answer me this please? If Rare could get Banjo on the 360, why couldn't/can't they get GoldenEye on the 360?

I really don't know much at all about this subject

When will game developers/publishers learn? Multi-platform is killing their potential. Do like every other industry and force it to be a one horse race. Does not matter whether its MS, Sony, or Nintendo, in the end it will be better for the consumer, the hardware guys and the devs.

With that said, I hope we get FFVII in some form no matter what.

so earning more money is bad for them? and which other industry? movies only for blu-ray? lol no?

bridgestone tires only for one car-manufacturer? lol no?

really most industries do the opposite of what you said haha

What you just said is exaclty what the game industry does.

The game industry really is bridgestone tires only for one car-manufacturer.

What if Music, Movies, and TV had first and third party? Say you could only listen to Sony music, or watch Sony TV shows and movies on Sony products. Would that be alright?

What about having to buy a licence to drive cars from different manufactures, or had to have a special reciever to fill up at each different gas station?

This would be like Albersons, Safeway, and Fred Myers saying you can only shop at their stores if you paid for a  $300 5 year membership. Then in at least one store, you would have to pay $50 more a year to use the carts. Along with that membership 3rd party stores (say, walmart, target, kmart) would also be include.

Microsoft owns part of the copyright for the first Mass Effect because they actuall funded the development of it. It's kind of a different ballgame.

Nintendo doesn't own copyright for original Rare properties, just the parts of Nitnendo games that were in them.

Didn't they also fund the development of the GTA Episodes? Or was that something else?

And does Sony publishing 7, funding the ad campaign and doing translations mean anything?

No, not unless they also own part of the copyright (like Microsoft does with Mass Effect but not the GTA Episodes). Funding, advertising, doing translations - Sony doesn't own any part of FF7 more necessarily than Nintendo does Monster Hunter 3. Those things on their own don't matter. Copyright does, and there's no indication that Sony has copyright for FF7.
