But why Zelda? It was so hyped for and it gave me was the same visuals it did 5 years ago when Twilight princess came out. The visuals for Twilight princess were still good (for that time) The gameplay did feel a bit renovated but the controls were still really washed out and you can easily make out within a few minutes of playing that the controls needed to be much more polished. I was bored to tears within  three hours of playing. My friend kept prompting me to play more as he would say "watch the good part's coming now, just wait one second" Unfortunately "no good part" came so you can say I'm really dissapointed. Again please don't hate on me I'm just speaking out my opinion. To some people such as my friend Zelda SS is the most innovative and intresting game they've ever played and I'm sure that's for many people on VGC as well.

Despite the Zelda formula being largly unchaged since Ocarina of Time, I believe Skyward Sword is still an amazing game. You don't need to change the formula for a great game if the original formula was freaken crazy solid. Halo for instance has been around for 10 years, and the gameplay hasn't ben alter much.

Twilight Princess was also a Gamecube port with Wii controls tacked on later on. Skyward Sword is the only proper Wii implemented Zelda title, and I think this could make the game somewhat funner, and more "polished."

So I don't question that Zelda is a great title, of similar quality with all the other AAA titles for the year, and I disagree with you about Twlight Princess controls lacking polish. IMHO Twilight Princess has better gameplay then inFamous, I mean when is the last time you walked through a wall in Zelda? The quality is there, in all Zelda games.

Anyway, Zelda isn't either of our GOTY's, but I'm glad it made the list because it's rare to see a proper gem on the Wii, and it's even rarer to see Spike acknowledge it. I'd rather see Zelda on the list then Gears any day, even if Gears is my GOTY.

Twilight Princess controls weren't polished in my opinion. I have to give it to them by really fixing the gameplay but that's about it. The mario galaxy series were excellent no doubt about that. Easily the best Wii games I've ever played. And you can't come Zelda with Infamous. Infamous is a different type of game and in my opinion much better than Zelda. In Zelda the controls feel way too tacked on and at times unresponsive. And games like Halo were good from the start and so was Zelda. But Zelda controls just don't work on Wii. It took them a really long time and the visuals, controls, and amount of polishness really hasn't changed much throught these 5 years. If you ask me I would play Zelda on the gamecube or N64 then on the Wii.

Wow, well we just have different opinions.

I've only played super Mario Galaxy for a couple hours, but I felt those controls could have been better. They felt like a washed down Super Mario 64, Mario doesn't just as smoothly and walls don't seem as hard. Maybe if I give it another chance, maybe because the rumble pack in Wii controllers is so minimal.

I love InFamous as well, haven't beaten either Wii Zelda, so I can't compare it to modern Zelda, but I like N64 Zelda a lot better then InFamous. I choose to compare to InFamous because it's the most similar game I could think of on the spot.

My view about Super Mario Galaxy appears to be the same as yours for Zelda, lol.

Anyway though, back on topic, you agree that Skyward Sword could work for the Wii controls where TP didn't? I think it's a good game. Overhyped as heck being the only AAA exclusive for Wii in 2011 (for Americas), but it's a good game, and it's nice to see Spike, someone who has typically been anti Wii, acknowledge it.

I agree with Kowen, should be 10 spots

1. Portal
2. Rayman Origins
3. Uncharted 3
4. Gears of War 3
5. Skyrim
6. Batman: AC
7. Zelda
8. Forza
9. LBP2
10. Dark Souls

This list seems pretty perfect to me.  Stamp of approval.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

The reason Gears3 didn't make it is most likely that it's really not better than MW3 or BF3, and especially not BF3 MP on PC. People compare Gears3 to Uncharted3 a lot, but really, Gears3 is more a shooter, be it TPS or FPS, it's primarily a shooter that refines game play around shooting mechanics unlike Uncharted, and BF3 on PC, despite my distaste on 3 shot kills(I like Gears better in that aspect,) the feel of shooting and sound are better, so it's hard to put Gears on that list IMO. It just doesn't stand out enough, but I'm sure if the list was 10, it would have made it.

No Mortal Kombat?

I love Mortal Kombat but I was trying to think generally what other people would think. MK would top 5 if it were up to me ...

In that case, I have to ask about the placement of Rayman Origins. I don't here many people talking about it.

If everyone is making their top 10 list, here is mine:

1. Forza Motorsport 4
2. Gears of War 3
3. Skyrim
4. Uncharted 3
5. Zelda
6. Portal 2
7. Batman
8. InFamous 2 (why isn't this on everyones list?)
9. Killzone 3
10. Battlefield 3 - too much of a toss up for this spot though.

I haven't even played half the games on my list yet, and I judge them based off experience with older games of the franchises and what I hear has been improved.

Everything with ** in mine, I haven't even played.

And Dead Space 2? Really? I played half of the game and then put it down to play Tales of Vesperia. It felt more of the same, but less scary. Apparently I stopped right before a major plot twist though, so I might pick it up again soon.

Things like this are FARCES.

The pure fact that 2 not yet released games are there should tell you these things are nominated months ago. FACT.

And Id say most of US will hav something to say about UC3 being there instead of Gears 3. Just look at the US sales. Obviously US customers disagree with he US awards on the whole.

Still IMO GOTY should be based on sales. At the end of the day the most popular games have obviously got more people thinking they are the best. Forget what some sad lonely reviewer thinks as he spits his dummy out becuase he cant work out why x game hsnt sold more.

Hint - Its probably not viewed as brilliant by everyone.

Now reviewers opinions are NOT fact.

Move along.

So Call of Duty should win every year?

I disagree with this logic fully. RPG's often have the most content, and as games offer the most quality and gameplay for the price, but sales are always super low. Mass Effect 2 was 2010's GOTY on most websites, but sales for that game are only 2.5 million compared to Call of Duty's 10+ per console. XenoBlade, dispite being a game of similar calibur as Zelda, will only sell 1/30th as well..Zelda is not 30x better, nor does it deserve to be a GOTY 30x more.

Still you are right, many of these nominees were nominees before the reviewers even got to play them. Maybe they got to play them early, after all Mario Kart 7 isn't a nominee for best handheld game. Who knows, but sales =/= quality. You should know, Forza 4 is an amazing game, but lifetime sales for that game will likely never surpass 5 million without bundles.
