That is true, but even for a shooter it's still good. Not fantastic like Uncharted, but better then most games this year, even outside it's genre. I mean Zelda is the same plot regurgitated, Batamn is no different from the comics, movies and shows of the last 40 years, and although Portal is hilarious, I wouldn't say it's story heavy.

Are you going to argue that Gears of war 3's plot was poorer then the other nominee's thus it shouldn't be a nominee?


Nope, I actually liked Gears more than a few of the nominees regardless of it's story. It's gameplay pushed it's overall quality above that of the nominess for me. Hell, I even thought it had a pretty good story. I was just acknowledging, in my opinion, at least, a flaw in your thought process earlier.

Also I'd say Batman's & Zelda's story are really good, but I'm not really interested in debating that.

Well I never said Gears 3 must be a nominee for VGC, only that it should because the quality is there. No flaw in that, and it's odd not seeing a Gears of War title in the nominees given the franchises pedigree.

I have yet to play Zelda, but I hear good things. Everyone has their own opinion, but the Batman and Zelda stories are not original enough (rehashes esentially) to me to keep me entertained. Down the road I will get both games because of fun gameplay mechanics, but for now I'm happy with Gears 3.

Anyway good debate, good conclusions.

I really think it should have deserved a spot. It is also my one favorite games this year (I haven't played Batman, Skyrim is good but a bit over rated) I don't think Zelda or Portal 2 deserved a spot in the top 5. I know many people will disagree with me but this is just my opinion.

I agree with you, but it's nice to see a Wii nominee on Spiked GOTY awards. Makes up a bit for not having Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 (The game which won the most GOTY Awards).

I agree with you, but it's nice to see a Wii nominee on Spiked GOTY awards. Makes up a bit for not having Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 (The game which won the most GOTY Awards).

But why Zelda? It was so hyped for and it gave me was the same visuals it did 5 years ago when Twilight princess came out. The visuals for Twilight princess were still good (for that time) The gameplay did feel a bit renovated but the controls were still really washed out and you can easily make out within a few minutes of playing that the controls needed to be much more polished. I was bored to tears within  three hours of playing. My friend kept prompting me to play more as he would say "watch the good part's coming now, just wait one second" Unfortunately "no good part" came so you can say I'm really dissapointed. Again please don't hate on me I'm just speaking out my opinion. To some people such as my friend Zelda SS is the most innovative and intresting game they've ever played and I'm sure that's for many people on VGC as well.

Despite the Zelda formula being largly unchaged since Ocarina of Time, I believe Skyward Sword is still an amazing game. You don't need to change the formula for a great game if the original formula was freaken crazy solid. Halo for instance has been around for 10 years, and the gameplay hasn't ben alter much.

Twilight Princess was also a Gamecube port with Wii controls tacked on later on. Skyward Sword is the only proper Wii implemented Zelda title, and I think this could make the game somewhat funner, and more "polished."

So I don't question that Zelda is a great title, of similar quality with all the other AAA titles for the year, and I disagree with you about Twlight Princess controls lacking polish. IMHO Twilight Princess has better gameplay then inFamous, I mean when is the last time you walked through a wall in Zelda? The quality is there, in all Zelda games.

Anyway, Zelda isn't either of our GOTY's, but I'm glad it made the list because it's rare to see a proper gem on the Wii, and it's even rarer to see Spike acknowledge it. I'd rather see Zelda on the list then Gears any day, even if Gears is my GOTY.

Really? Reeeaaaallllllyyyy??? Rayman was best on PS1, IMO, I'm sorry.

Take out Rayman, switch Uncharted with Gears and Batman with Forza, and place Portal above Batman, bump LBP off the list and add inFamous 2 in it's place and Killzone 3 right below it, and then  I agree...so basically I only agree that 8 of your games should stay on the list in your approx order.

Twilight Princess controls weren't polished in my opinion. I have to give it to them by really fixing the gameplay but that's about it. The mario galaxy series were excellent no doubt about that. Easily the best Wii games I've ever played. And you can't come Zelda with Infamous. Infamous is a different type of game and in my opinion much better than Zelda. In Zelda the controls feel way too tacked on and at times unresponsive. And games like Halo were good from the start and so was Zelda. But Zelda controls just don't work on Wii. It took them a really long time and the visuals, controls, and amount of polishness really hasn't changed much throught these 5 years. If you ask me I would play Zelda on the gamecube or N64 then on the Wii.
