Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil: Revelations to Cost $50

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/28300

"The price is justified, according to Capcom.

Resident Evil: Revelations will be the first 3DS game priced at $50.

A Capcom representative told Kotaku that the reason the game has been priced at $50 is that "Resident Evil Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D". He elaborates, "A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point."

The game will be released in North America on February 7, 2012."

Guess the cutscenes they were talking about were like the CGI ones in the city setting in this trailer.

Is the price justified? That is the question.

.... and they broke the mold.

Expect this to be common now, especially on PSV.

Still nickel and dime-ing. So if they can't get away with trying to hose used sales, they will jack up the price.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The good news is, as long as Nintendo sticks to the magic $40, this will not become the norm. Hard enough competing with Nintendo without costing an extra $10. I doubt more than a couple of games will do this kind of hijinks on the 3DS.

That said, expect a $50 on the Vita, with $60 for high-end games. HD graphics don't come cheap.

I don't know why but does anyone else have these preconceived notions that all handheld games should be cheap?

Now I don't know why I think that way especially when many handheld games give you just as much gaming time as console/PC games but I just couldn't justify spending over $25 on a handheld game.

It's in your DNA. You are an American and bigger equals better.

Can't argue with that logic

If the game is great and worth the price, I will not cry when paying the $50.

Nintendo for years showed that games in the $30 range worked fine for the Gameboy. They got away with a $5 hike on the DS, but with their major games, and some third parties with a $10 hike. Yet they made up for that by lower prices on their lesser games. But jacking that up either further is just going to further alienate people.

Capcom try to squeeze every single penny out of every single release don't they? Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D should have been a budget release.
