3DS is 2.36m

3DS is at 6.68 million in Worldwide sales ending the month of September. They expect 17 million 3DSs to be sold through the 2011/2012 fiscal year. They will miss their forecast if America doesn't get their shit together and they will post losses as long as they're developing Wii-U and take a loss on every 3DS sold.

16M not 17, so they have 9 to go. With 2 Q's, so very achieveable ..

Wii on the other hand, they expect about 7.35 next Q and 1.3 the Q after? I can see that being adjusted down again though.

They will defitnetly adjust down their forecast for Wii again seeing as there is nothing going for it this year or next year other than Zelda. I see they also adjusted down their forecast for 3DS software  giving the lackluster software sales  for it lately.

Yeah, everything down except 3DS HW. The Wii has sold around 80 - 85M SW each christmas for the last 3 years, this year however they expected about 50/55 from my calculations.

Iwata getting ejected confirmed. 01.net was right all this time. I am kind of  happy they are not doing so well, that means they can stop being cocky just because they are market leaders this gen. Troubled Nintendo is the best Nintendo. They are also having an investors briefing tomorrow: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/

I was wrong about 3DS, I was adding the sales from Jan - March, they have to sell 13 mill or so over the next 6 months ... hmm, tallk order!

13 million? Not happening . The 3DS is still not taking off in America and NOA seems to really not give a shit about it announcing DSi and DSi XL bundles for this holiday.

I think (though I may be wrong) that some of you may be over-attributing these losses to development costs and sales - I am under the impression the that bulk of the losses is due to exchange rate issues, with the difference this time around (vs. the past) that sales were not good enough to offset the exchange rates losses.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

hm, this is quite bad..... : (

actually, it's not that the sales are so bad, it's a lot of things combined together contributing to such a loss, a lot should have been lost in exchange rates, less than expected 3DS sales (although it's not that bad), Wii and Ds sales much lower, WiiU should cost some more

Microsoft and mainly Sony should also be affected by the exchange rates, but at least their Ps3 and Xbox360 are doing good enough

Nintendo may have lost some money this year, but they'll probably get them back when 3DS games come out and when manufacture costs drop for the 3DS, Sony was also losing some money with the Ps3 for some time after the price drops as well...

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Forecasted 20B Yen Profit is now forecasted to be a 20B Yen loss, first in history. So they don't expect to make back the $922M they've lost so far.

If they actually hit that target, that won't be as bad, since it will be uphill battle now. Also what does 20b Yen loss translate into?

I think you are wrong about MS, I don't see any reason why they should be affected by the same exchange rates, they hardly sell in Japan and they are not Japan based.

I assume he meant the Euro vs Dollar, but that still isn't really an affect based on that significant enough. Sony and Nintendo are going to suffer from a weak Euro.

I agree....

Which is worse for Nintendo.  The development costs oif the WiiU would be a one hit problem.  The Yen exchange rate problem isnt going away anytime soon.

Well the exchange rate problem is bad for all Japanese companies that sell a lot outside Japan, this explains though IMO why Nintendo may have seemed Japan focused lately (as in bothering to localize games such as Epic Mickey and Goldeneye in Japan while not localizing Xenoblade in the US).

I think the exchange rate contribute to over 40% of that $1.3B losses.
