can someone please tell me, when they say 16mil for the 3ds, by when do they mean?

They are expecting to ship a total of 16 million 3DS in all regions by March 2012

For the fiscal year.  That means 12.93 million in the next six months.

Which is simply not gonna happen.

Even if Japan goes totally crazy on the point of 3DS there's still a matter of lackluster western performance after price drop.

And it's unknown how much 3DS sales will be lost to Vita in initial months.

That 12.93 is a little high, I think they said they shipped 6.63 from apr-sept so a little less than 10 mil between sept and mar

There is just no way that they will make their Wii or 3DS numbers for the rest of the year.

So basically they missed their numbers for the last 2 quarters and are going to miss again next quarters...

Seriously, how bad can you be at predicting your own business ?

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

3DS launch was last fiscal year.  They shipped 0.71 million in Q1 and 2.36 million in Q2.

What I've always wondered is why Nintendo( or any other Japanese company) don't just keep there regional earnings in said region and avoid these currency exchange issues. What, they don't trust westerners or somethin?

And VGC is undertracking 3ds sales by ~1mil? Because that 6.68 numbers is sold not shipped. ( assuming they would have used the word shipped).

It's shipped.  It's always shipped unless they directly cite media create/NPD/GFK/Chart-Track/etc.

So can people predict the next results Nintendo posts? Predict the next 6 months please!

Well first they will not make their 16M projection for the 3DS unless another price cut is in the cards

Second, if people actually read the press report that nintendo sent out, they are projecting a value of 78 Yen/Dollar for the next six months, the current rate is at teh mid 75's, they have a average of 109 Euro/Yen but its currently at 105, so more exchange related losses

Third, they north american business is deteriorating at a alamaring clip, they are being burnt by the X360 and PS3 as multiplat titles are going to those systems.  They only shipped 520k units from april to sept.

Fourth still a relative weak holiday lineup for the Wii, they are trying to midigate software losses by bundling their top tier games with Wii and 3DS

Fifth, Vita release in Japan eating into 3DS sales

Sixth WiiU final form wont be shown until E3 2012, so you looking at three quarters of subpar performance from two declining systems and one in trouble

so on and so on

Isn't it the other way around? Nintendo's results are in Yen, so if the Yen goes up, they will get more Yen out of each dollar they receive from the US and therefore post better results IN YEN.
If the Yen, on the other hand, got stronger (ie appreciated versus the dollar) then each dollar they receive will translate in less Yen and therefore the results posted will be worse IN YEN.

Of course here we are ignoring the local economic factors of Japan like inflation, recession, tax adjustments, minimum wage fluctuations, etc.

The actual problem of the Yen is that it is getting stronger, so when they receive dollars, each dollar gets converted into less Yen than before. Their results never mention dollars or euros, so as long as they get more Yen out of any of the other foreign currencies, they will be posting better results for the same amount of incoming foreign cash.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

These numbers would be absolutely unbelieveable only a couple of years back. Let's hope they make the 3DS profitable very soon!

Yes I don't think Sony is going to post a profit either, all Japanese companies are hurting at the moment with the strong Yen.

All bow to me the VGChartz current reigning 3DS prediction champion

Bet with tbone51: Pokeon X & pokemon Y will not sell more than 8 million in 2013

July 2009 daveJ saidTrue the wii has a large lead now but by 2017 the most likely result will be 1. ps3 2. xbox360 3. wii <-- wii's successor launched in 2011 effectively killing sales of the wii

2009 daveJ said: The wii will not break the 50% marketshare barrier it will go below the 40% marketshare barrier though in the future. VGChartz members: Impossible, youre an idiot that knows nothing about sales

So Nintendo only expect to ship another 3.4 million DS' in the next 6 months? The channel must be horrendously overstuffed because there's almost no way it's going to sell-through that little unless Nintendo discontue it before the end of the year.
