So can people predict the next results Nintendo posts? Predict the next 6 months please!

Well first they will not make their 16M projection for the 3DS unless another price cut is in the cards

Second, if people actually read the press report that nintendo sent out, they are projecting a value of 78 Yen/Dollar for the next six months, the current rate is at teh mid 75's, they have a average of 109 Euro/Yen but its currently at 105, so more exchange related losses

Third, they north american business is deteriorating at a alamaring clip, they are being burnt by the X360 and PS3 as multiplat titles are going to those systems.  They only shipped 520k units from april to sept.

Fourth still a relative weak holiday lineup for the Wii, they are trying to midigate software losses by bundling their top tier games with Wii and 3DS

Fifth, Vita release in Japan eating into 3DS sales

Sixth WiiU final form wont be shown until E3 2012, so you looking at three quarters of subpar performance from two declining systems and one in trouble

so on and so on

Still, I think it is believed that they will profit in the next half (the following 6 month).  Given the European markets can constantly get worse.

Most companies who deal with consumer electronics have their best quarter from sept to dec and nintendo will be no different but the difference, to me at least, is that you dont want to have multiple headwinds and uncertainty going into your best quarter and that is what nintendo has.  The competition of the videogame dollar is going to be tight this year and I see nintendo being one of the lesser beneficiaries.

No I totally agree this is going to be a rough year. I can image that 70 billion yen loss going to 20 billion yen loss, will actually 20-40 billion yen loss.

Also I am fairly optimistic about 3DS Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw 100k+ weeks for awhile in Japan, even with the Vita.

can someone please tell me, when they say 16mil for the 3ds, by when do they mean?

They are expecting to ship a total of 16 million 3DS in all regions by March 2012

For the fiscal year.  That means 12.93 million in the next six months.

I think (though I may be wrong) that some of you may be over-attributing these losses to development costs and sales - I am under the impression the that bulk of the losses is due to exchange rate issues, with the difference this time around (vs. the past) that sales were not good enough to offset the exchange rates losses.

That's what i'm getting out of much of this. The 3DS losses are supposed to be slimmer, so the main factor is that they just haven't been offering people much of anything to buy outside the 3DS

The problem is the latter part will continue to be an issue until fall 2012 when Wii U comes out, and that's only if they position Wii U to be at a profit from day one (which they should unless they've really overpowered the tablet).

The bright spot is the 3DS Japanese sales explosion from Monster Hunter, which will give them revenue in a currency that's worth something, and that the 3DS loss will flip once they get economies of scale into higher gear

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah, can't see why they still predict 12 million wii's... well let's wait and see I guess :P and maybe one more reason of the loss is the excessive wii bundling? MK and WSR which were Huge Wii sellers (even after years of release) no longer can get them the money. They just ship them with new Wii's :/

As for the 3DS, well only software can get the money in now. MK and SM3D Land are 2 of the biggest properties out there. So maybe this can save their profits now? Not sure but with 3DS selling at a loss, it's gonna be a tough year for Nintendo. Wii U is definitely the one to watch next year. Whether it can change Nintendo's luck remains to be seen
