In a Nikkei interview Iwata explained the reason for the lack of titles that have been released earlier this year.
| With the release of the Wii U next year, Nikkei noted that it will be important for Nintendo to keep the current Wii market active. The Wii had holes in its lineup earlier this year due to development delays associated with preparations for launching the 3DS, said Iwata. However, the upcoming Wii lineup will be more robust than it was last year. Iwata believes that if they have a strong software lineup, they can bring energy to the market. |
Launching new hardware seems taxing for Nintendo, they need to expand further if they want to support both handheld and consoles equally. What will happen next year when the Wii U releases? Three platforms could be too much for Nintendo to maintain, though the Wii is done - if it can be sacrifised for the 3DS, the same can be done for the Wii U. With the redesigned sans-GC scheduled for the holidays, they just need to keep it as a cheap family console, and release one or two games during the holidays. But I'd like them to continue supporting the Wii, just with software that is budget concious for the type of gamer who buys consoles at that stage and since the titles would still be compatible with Wii U, they'd have a budget line for the new console too.
So, what you think about the 3DS affecting this years Wii software?
