Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: Wii lineup holes due to 3DS

I agree i slipped up on that. I forgot about Loco Roco and Patapon which were excellent in their own right, though they had niche appeal.

milkyjoe made the better point here. Seeing all their franchises farmed out on PSP makes the impression that they will be of lesser quality, and it's hard to tell whether impression has lead to reality or not. Part of that problem stems from the bigger question of whether Sony has any true blockbuster franchises outside of Gran Turismo (and GT PSP was noted for being weakest in the franchise), but even then, i can say that degrees of hype tend to speak for themselves on this sort of thing. What PSP games were the most talked about? Usually not Sony-made ones. Kojima Productions made serious efforts with Portable Ops and Peace Walker, Capcom with Monster Hunter obviously, Square Enix with Birth By Sleep and the Dissidias. Level 5 and Jeanne d'Arc (though that was published under Sony), and Rockstar's GTA Stories, as well as Ubisoft's Lumines

Resistance Retribution, Motor Storm... i think it was called Arctic Edge? Killzone Liberation actually did have some decent buzz surrounding it, LBPSP, Chains of Olympus had a solid rung of support, though nowhere near that seen around 2 or 3, most of these games seemed like footnotes, except for CoO as i stated. Their attempt to revive Jak and Daxter apparently went over quite poorly

Whatever the reason, it must be admitted that the handheld versions of these big Sony franchises rarely see anything resembling the level of hype surrounding their console brethren, which brings us around to the original point that this is not the case as much with Nintendo, where Metroid Fusion sold the same as Super Metroid did in its time, where Pokemon is truly top tier among any franchise anywhere, where New Super Mario Bros outsold anything Nintendo had produced since Super Mario Bros. Animal Crossing: Wild World was the peak of the franchise in terms of appeal, Mario Kart DS certainly stood on the level with its fellows, and where Kirby makes his home indeed more comfortably than he does on consoles

With this evidence it can be argued that Nintendo gets these results because they put top talent on the handhelds, and Sony does not get equitable levels of hype for their first-party PSP games because they do not give them the same degree of love and care, which then explains the strength of their console schedule and their comparative weakness of their handheld setup

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

And the 3DS holes thanks to Wii?

3DS holes thanks to catering to 3rd parties.

Am I to understand from that article that Nintendo actually have first party content still planned for Wii in 2012?
Is there something to look forward to besides DQ?

I want to see this "energy" of titles. Will believe it when I see it.

What a great idea Nintendo had when they pulled all of their resources from the number one home console in the world to concentrate on their new handheld. Things worked out great.

It used to be that I got crappy games on the Wii. Now I don't even get those.

Give it a month or two, the holiday season is about to start.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Perhaps you're right, but I get the feeling that I'll only need a shovel to get past the Wii section in the Gamestop this year.  It was a snow blower last Christmas season.

A shovel alone would be an improvement, I usually have a clothespin on my nose.
Either way the crappy games are coming, It'll be just like old times.

this seems appropriate to the thread

I only wish I could find one of 3DS sucking up all of Wii's money

I would play my Wii now, but I don't like the smell of formaldehyde and flowers.
