That's interesting "but means that the handheld never gets anything truly excellent internally" and I'll add and gives the impression that lots of AAA games are being delivered due to brand name. For example, do we know if SCE Bend is at the same level of quality as powerhouse Naughty Dog? Even so, will golden abyss still provide the experience enjoyed by the console counterparts? If so, even with a smaller studio, possibly they found a way to deliver AAA games with less than AAA studios. What do you think? |
That question is harder to devine. A simple "No," would be easy enough, but that ventures so widely into the realm of subjectivity that it is hard to say. Obviously we are not getting an experience exactly the same given that two studios will be stylistically different necessarily, and you can't rely on Metacritic given that reviewers tend to rate handheld iterations of console games lower by default, though not by much
I would argue that the brand power loses some of its strength, if the name Naughty Dog is not coupled behind Uncharted, and i would equally argue that what makes Sony's big franchises unique may be diluted somewhat as people other than those with the vision to initially create them take them into their own hands, similar to the dip in quality seen sometimes when Nintendo farms out games, for instance StarFox Assault, which was a good game, but not exemplary like the EAD-developed 64.
