Idk if they should, but i think they wont after recently pulling out of Japan.

I don't think they pulled out. Retailers dropped the 360 from their shelves, Microsoft tried very hard to keep their consoles on store shelves but as far as I know retailers decided to drop it. I think sales were just to low for retailers to consider carrying the X-Box line any longer. If Microsoft chooses to launch Nex-Box in Japan they will have to convince retailers that they will actually turn a profit. It has to be profitable for the retailers or they will give that shelf space to PS4/WiiU!

It'll be interesting to see what happens next-gen in Japan. Maybe the PS3 will  have shelf space right there next to the PS4?(If a new Xbox doesn't launch there or retailers decide not to carry).

Another possibility is increased shelf space for Vita and/or 3DS. Everyone knows portables sell a lot better in Japan.

Of course. Why deny yourself a potential market just because you don't dominate in it? There are 1.5million 360 owners in the region; ignoring that means they never really cared to make any headway there, which would be a tragic mistake in my view.

So the 360 should ride out this wave and the 720 should (and will) start on a new one.

Exactly. I also bet a lot of Japanese gamers thought 360 would just die off. Next gen, maybe the 720 can do better. Maybe 2 million sales (keep in mind I expect overall console sales to drop due to the switch to handhelds).

1.5 million sales isn't much, but it's something. It's not like the PS3 is doing that much better there. MS is at a disadvantage since console sales are overall droping in Japan in favor of handhelds, and because it's American.

However MS should still try. Besides a lot of these games designed for Japanese gamers attract gamers around the world. Lost Odyssey is my favorite JRPG this gen, and FFXIII sold equally well on 360 as it did on PS3 outside of Japan.

No it didn't. Just look at sales date on this site.

PS3 America - 1.4 million
PS3 EMEAA - 1.3 million

360 America - 1 million
360 EMEAA - 750k

Final Fantasy sold ~400k more in America on PS3 and almost double in EMEAA. That's not equal.

Yes they should and like many before me mentioned they should aim to sell at least 3 million consoles next generation in Japan. If they can duplicated the gains they made from last generation to this generation then 4 million consoles or more is possible.

exactly 1. 5 mill is great and nobody in there right mind would give up that many or even more potential hardware sales plus all the software

also considering it would   impact negatively even if small when japanese developers decide on multiplatform resourcing support for no real gain.

Exactly, people who argue otherwise are just haters.

Damn the holidays bring out the hate in some people.

If you followed my debate, you will see I was mistaken. I knew FFXIII sold about 1.7-1.8 million units on the 360, and I knew overall it sold 4.4 million or so on the PS3. I thought it broke 2 million in Japan, but I was mistaken.

However FFXIII sales on 360 were still pretty decent, nothing to ignore. JRPG's should still come to MS IMO.

Of course Microsoft needs to release the next Xbox in Japan. The important thing is for them to learn what Japanese gamers want because I think they still don't understand. They treat every region like the US and the UK but Japan is a very different beast altogether.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Even selling 1.5 million 360s in Japan is worth launching it. 360 is out in many other countries with a far less installed base....but they do it anyway.

Overall, its stupid to just not launch somewhere. Any and all sales helps.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

5. My point was outside of Japan, JRPG's are still popular on the 360. People still appreciate JRPG's outside on the 360, so making games focused for the Japanese audience will still affect sales outside of Japan. What are you debating?

This is something that i'm still pretty pissed off about and something I completely disagree with. JRPG's flop on the Xbox 360, big time, Final Fantasy XIII only sold well on the Xbox 360 because of how big the franchise is and the hype surrounding it. For other JRPG's, the paid exclusivity deals combined with the poor sales have contributed to the decline of JRPG's in the West and is probably the reason why so many JRPG's aren't being localised.

I don't know what you are classifying as a "flop" but outside of Final Fantasy, most JRPGs that I can recall don't break the million mark.

I think the decline is merely in the lack of quality in the games and the rise in popularity of WRPGs this gen.
