i have a Ruger 10-22 semi auto rifle(.22)
Henry Repeater (.17 special)
12 gauge shotgun
.38 snub-nose smith and wesson revolver.

and dont know much about guns (probably more than most though)
and i plan on taking some classes to become more proficient with guns, and when i turn 21 (stupid that you cant at 18) i will get my conceal and carry.

Does that mean you can carry a gun around with you at all times? (in a holster?)

Can't get anything like that in the UK, which I am quite happy about as I don't really want guns anywhere

Kind of. You can't carry it in any government buildings, anywhere that serves alchohol, or anyplace that puts up a "no concealed firearms" sign, which is most places.

its not as many places as you make it out to be, but still to many. most of those restrictions are completely  pointless and do nothing to keep people safe, infact people are less safe because of them. just look at universities.

@munkeh

yes you can take you firearm with you into most places, concealed on you person in any fashion you deem fit, doesnt have to be holstered.

some states even have open carry laws, where you can have you firearm any where on you body, and people can obviously see it. which is a not a very smart thing to do, and i would never advocate practicing open cary.

Hey I was just curious whether anyone else here on VG is into guns, hunting, shooting, etc. I just recently finished all the necessary courses and sent away all the paperwork to get my PAL (Posession and Acquisition Licence) in Canada so I'm not far from getting my licence and getting my first gun!

Anyone already own a gun (or multiple guns)? I'm looking at buying a Russian SKS as my first gun. Its only around $250-300 in Canada and I've heard its reliable and fairly accurate. I'm also looking into handguns, possibly the CZ 75B and/or a Tokarev TT-33.

Whatever, I just wondered how popular guns are on this site. Not sure how gun ownership works in Europe but in Canada and USA its not that hard to get guns.

Well I'm British, so the only guns we can have are either shotguns or .22 rifles with a license.

Aah that's too bad. A lot more strict than Canada. Here the only things that are prohibited are fully automatic guns and pistols that are less than 4 inches (too easy to conceal I guess).

I'm pretty jealous. If I could move anywhere in the world it would be Canada.

There are some details I forgot, shotguns are not allowed to hold more than 2 shells without reloading (the shell in the barrell doesn't count), so if you bought a pump action shotgun in the UK, you could only fire 3 rounds before having to reload. Sawn-off shotguns are banned too.

Yeah there's a few more details about Canada too. Rifles are only allowed 5 round magazines and handguns are only allowed 10 round magazines. And for some reason .25 and .32 caliber weapsons are banned (no idea why). And armour piercing rounds are banned but that makes sense at least. And like the UK sawed off shotguns are banned. Oh and silencers are banned too.

So we're strict as hell compared to USA, but I guess still more lax than Europe (or at least the UK).

And that's cool to hear you'd like to live in Canada! You'd probably like it, there's something for everyone here.

@Marks, like I said, I'm not a gun fanatic so I can't tell you how it compares to many different weapons. I've shot a 9mm Taurus, the 40 Cal Sig, and the Glock 17 and let me say that I prefer the Glock BY FAR. Trigger pull feels perfect, unlike the other two whose triggers require so much effort that they can actually throw your aim off. It's very reliable and doesn't seem to recoil at all, either (Sig hurts my wrist when I fire with the weak hand).

I qualified with the Glock with a 98% accuracy (out of 30 rounds, all of them hit center of the target--one round was barely below the box in the middle). I shoot the Sig far more often and I'm just happy if I can get everything in the grey (I'll have to post a pic of our targets so you know what I mean. I think they're TQ-19 but I'm not positive- -and I'm posting from my phone, on my job). I love my Glock.

Here's the guy.  I know him very well.

Very nice man! I've only heard good things about Glocks.

That's not too strict, although it is tighter than US gun laws. Those extra details you mentioned are completely understandable (apart from no .25 and .32 caliber weapons).

And I like Canada, especially the people, my uncle lives there.

Still, the UK is far too strict, and most of Europe is the same.

no limiting clip/magazine size is pretty stupid. its so much fun to rapid fire guns, and it takes a lot of enoyment out of it, if after every 5-10 shots you have to put in a new clip.

my rifle has a 25 round banana clip, which has little prongs on the side, so i can attach another magazine to it a quikly flip it when one runs out. like in killzone, they have 2 mags taped together and when you reload he flips it.

Single shot weapons can still be fun, if anything I prefer one big bang to something fully automatic.

Don't own a gun and don't know anyone who does. I don't see why I'd want to own a gun, considering I don't wanna shoot anybody. If someone will ever be after me, I'll buy one.
