I wonder how this will effect PS Vita when it comes out... now that there will be a significant price difference

It's effective August 12 and will cost $170.

$169.99 as of August 12th. If you buy it before that, you get 10 free NES and 10 free GBA games from the eshop.

edit: beaten by a hair...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

i wonder how they convinced anyone that was a good idea, given that they took losses in a quarter when all their products were priced at a profit, and now they're flagship product is going to be priced at a loss?

They must be very confident about upcoming software numbers

Looking at sales and support, the 3DS is not a flagship of anything :P

When the sales fail to move at all past the initial boost, Nintendo will regret this.

I think it's because the 3DS is in trouble and they fail to get it's not a price issue, it's a software one. As Malstrom has been telling us since it was announced.

wait i thought Nintendo did not want to lose money on anything anymore after what happened with GC...

But Nintendo never lost in GC.

If I'm correct, it was more profitable than the PS2.

And this is their punishment, this is what happens when you handle the launch horribly, overprice the machine, have 0 good games at launch, your big profile games are remakes, don't have even the store ready at launch, have lazy marketing and just hope that it will sell biillions.

I want to know the EU price...

that was supposed to be 250€ but it never actually cost that here ^^ more like 220... though at release I got a bundle for 240 with monkey ball (which I was gonna buy and which was 35€).
UK had down to 190£ I believe

AMZ UK has it at 170£ but with zelda at 20£ (so 10£ off).

The system didn't sell because of the games, but that also has to do with price. Why develop for a system thats not selling well and priced really high? Dropping the price to $170 makes it cheaper then Vita, and easier to develop for knowing the system will be more affordable now.

It's just that simple.
