It seems 3D really is cursed...

This might be true to assemble the machine. Then you have to pay licenses to software, print manuals, boxes, pack everything, pay storage and ship to distributors. I don't know how much this might cost but it might add to $169 bucks in the end. I would more easily believe that Nintendo just cut any profit in 3DS' sales. This would be comparable to the manufacturing cost and would make more sense in the company pricing policy.

In Australia were now paying $250 after the $100 price drop. And it's STILL higher the what American's were paying in the beginning with the current exchange rate.

Aussie's arethe only one's who have the right to complain about video game prices anyway.

I know times have changed but the original DS didn't start out any better... is this all because of smartphones or is there something else going on?

really, the DS had quite a few problems when it launched, not the least of which was being weird, making it difficult to understand who the product was aimed at...

I guess the 3DS costs more to produce than most people here assumed

I'm pretty sure that it's a very small loss, either way.
