http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/29/3ds_losses/

At a press conference in Osaka today, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata justified this by saying that such major moves were necessary in order to improve fiscal performance next year and beyond.

Nintendo making a loss on hardware? This is really hard to believe...

Wasn't expecting that. This can either turn out well or horrendously bad for Nintendo as a whole, I really hope it is the former

'bout time.

Next month, I'm getting 50.

Wow...

It's just that simple.

I kind of doubt it, and if they are the loss must be tiny.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

Didn't some people estimated the 3DS to be less than $110 way back?

If they're making a loss in Japan they're most likely making one in Europe

15000 yen is 135 euro add on shipping and tax and you're above 169 euro

wait i thought Nintendo did not want to lose money on anything anymore after what happened with GC...

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

That was for the pure production costs of the individual parts without assembling, packaging, shipping and all the rest factored in.

Plus the Yen isn't making things any easier for them
