You are right, but this is not only exclusives. I would say the majority of 3rd party multiplatform games sell more on the xbox360 than the ps3. Not always, but usually. An idea I came across that could be compleely wrong as I have no proof of it being true is the average user demographic and subsequently the average user age of each console. I am under the impression that the ps3 is more supported by an older crowd than the 360. Older people tend to have more responsibilities beyond just schooling. Anything from having a job to raising children can get in the way of gaming and so ps3's crowd are more selective of their games and purchase less.

This is simply my impression and could be completely wrong. if the user demographic for both systems was similar, I would have to attribute it to lower marketing by sony.

You are right in that most multiplats sell more on the xbox but part of the reason for this may be that the xbox has fewer exclusives than ps3 so the xbox gamers tend to spend more on multiplats than do ps3 gamers (who spend more on ps3 exclusives). From what i understand of this year, the ps3 has sold more software than xbox even though they are selling less multiplat games.

you may be onto something there man, ps3 users do have a lot more exclusives to spend their cash on.

I honestly don't think that is the reason games tend to sell more on the xbox. I think it has more to do with XBL then anything. Plus Americans tend to buy more games then any other country and the Xbox brand is a lot more popular in America so you do the math.

Overall they don't, the reason a handful sell more is because MS advertises them heavily and they don't have much competition from other exclusives

i believe it has something to do with amount of features the 360 exclusive have the amount appleas to a wide range of games

look at a games like gears and halo this gen

coop campaigns (really early with gears at 06 got the ball rolling)

other things like survival type modes that are playable even offline with those games, appeal to gamers that like solo play and even have no online thats why COD goes the extra mile with its offerings like zombie mode, spec ops, combat training

amount of marketing can also play into this aswell

I agree with this. If you look at all of the main exclusives like Halo, Gears, forza and Fable all offer some form of online play and splitscreen co-op. For example say a friend comes over and you guys have a lot of fun playing together, he/she may decide to grab a copy of the game or maybe an Xbox if they don't have one already. Thats actually the reason why I bought the original xbox was because I had so much fun playing Halo:CE at one of my friends houses I decided to get an Xbox myself so that way we could play together if they came over.

I think its at least a part of the reason but you may be right with regards to XBL and your other points  that they may also be a reason for the greater xbox multiplat sales  (wouldnt have a clue as i dont live in US).

I would point out that while the xbox is doing excellently at the moment, this may not be good from a future standpoint.  The real growth of games right now is in the EMEAA (namely Asia, South america), and while xbox is doing well focussing on NA and to a lesser extent Europe eventually they will have to make drastic changes to increase their appeal in the rapidly growing asian and S American markets where shooters dont appeal as much. This is really where the huge NUMBER of exclusives that sony has can really give them an advantage as they have a huge variety of games for a range of different genres to suit every gamer.

Will be interesting to see MS's strategy next gen whether they stick with their known IPs and focus on NA/Europe or try to gain a wider appeal.

I always thought the reason Xbox games sell more is because Xbox focuses almost solely on the US Market and the US Market is easily the biggest market in the world, outshining Europe and Japan put together, where the PS3 rules.
