You are right, but this is not only exclusives. I would say the majority of 3rd party multiplatform games sell more on the xbox360 than the ps3. Not always, but usually. An idea I came across that could be compleely wrong as I have no proof of it being true is the average user demographic and subsequently the average user age of each console. I am under the impression that the ps3 is more supported by an older crowd than the 360. Older people tend to have more responsibilities beyond just schooling. Anything from having a job to raising children can get in the way of gaming and so ps3's crowd are more selective of their games and purchase less.

This is simply my impression and could be completely wrong. if the user demographic for both systems was similar, I would have to attribute it to lower marketing by sony.

You are right in that most multiplats sell more on the xbox but part of the reason for this may be that the xbox has fewer exclusives than ps3 so the xbox gamers tend to spend more on multiplats than do ps3 gamers (who spend more on ps3 exclusives). From what i understand of this year, the ps3 has sold more software than xbox even though they are selling less multiplat games.

I honestly don't think that is the reason games tend to sell more on the xbox. I think it has more to do with XBL then anything. Plus Americans tend to buy more games then any other country and the Xbox brand is a lot more popular in America so you do the math.

I think its at least a part of the reason but you may be right with regards to XBL and your other points  that they may also be a reason for the greater xbox multiplat sales  (wouldnt have a clue as i dont live in US).

I would point out that while the xbox is doing excellently at the moment, this may not be good from a future standpoint.  The real growth of games right now is in the EMEAA (namely Asia, South america), and while xbox is doing well focussing on NA and to a lesser extent Europe eventually they will have to make drastic changes to increase their appeal in the rapidly growing asian and S American markets where shooters dont appeal as much. This is really where the huge NUMBER of exclusives that sony has can really give them an advantage as they have a huge variety of games for a range of different genres to suit every gamer.

Will be interesting to see MS's strategy next gen whether they stick with their known IPs and focus on NA/Europe or try to gain a wider appeal.
