Gran Turismo 5 with AMAZING LEGS receive a boost in EMEAA...

21%

9,725 to 11,778... 26th to 13th.

Seems like it will go back to TOP40 WW .

The 3DS seems to be in some deep shit. Not even OoT helped it very much.

Horrible sales are just...horrible

After looking through the summer weeks of emeaa over the past few years I think this is the lowest hardware sales for EMEAA since consoles from this generation came out...

I was thinking the same thing but I can't be bothered with checking to see if that is accurate.

Dull week, I expected the bad weather to keep more people at home playing games, making the Summer drop temporarily less steep. Maybe the lack of big new games just made them play the ones they already owned...

But for clarification I am talking about handheld gaming only.

Factor in the explosion of casual gaming via smartphones, social media and tablets then factor in the biggest economic meltown of all time and you see why convergence is CLEARLY going to have a negative effect on handhelds over the next 2 or 3 years.   I am not saying handheld gaming is declining, I am saying it is shifting focus.

I dont get why people refuse to see this.

The shift of focus in handheld gaming would be the consequence of the decline of the current handheld gaming.

But coming back as to why this is happening, the economic meltdown only accentuates the high price, though even in good times it would be too high for the 3DS, and that's only part of the problem. The explosion of smartphones, social media and tablets is irrelevant to the terrible situation the 3DS is in. All those things are either on PC's or handheld PC's. Gaming on these things is just a secondary function, and as history shows, with the NES, PC's and video game consoles don't compete directly with each other.

So why do people keep saying that nonsense?

Me thinks this too.

Those are very rosy specs you are wearing...  yes I know its the summer months, but its a YOY decline of 50% we are talking here... so a decline of 50% on the last summer months.  Total hardware sales by number of units are off the cliff compared to this time last year (even allowing for the skewing by the big 360 number last year) - and I cant believe you brought the PS2 at $199 into this...

Well, do you realise that while it is down from last years numbers, it has also been a whole year later and things change in a year?  We are now in a time when Nintendo has already announced the beginning of the next gen, which will begin in less than a year (most likely), with Sony & MS not too far behind (probably a year).  It has also been nearly 2 full years since the PS3 and 360 has had a price-cut, so many know they are due for one later this year.  And the PS2's price is very relevant, as $199 is a very sweet spot for sales.  It is also a price the PS3 has yet to reach.  So in the end, home consoles this gen will surpass the number of consoles sold last gen, even with all those factors you pointed out working against them.

And even if you were only speaking of the handheld market, it is FAR too early to call doom and gloom.  We have yet to see the release of the PS Vita.  All we have now is the 3DS, which has been lacking a good quantity of quality titles.  Now, if the Vita launches and within 6 months it and the 3DS are still being beaten by the PSP or DS WW, then yes you can say handhelds are doomed.  Until that time, your comments are quite premature.
